Hi everyone !

Just a question that bothered me lately : Is there a way to increase industrial production other than the obvious ones ?

We know that industrial capacity (number of factory slots) are limited by the region type (Metropolis, rural, etc). We are able to extend this cap with national focuses & technologies (Concentrated industry).

Previously, the devs used a system that calculated the factory cap based on the population & the infrastructure but decided to change it.

Will infrastructures still be used to increase the industrial capacity or will it be "only" used for supplies issues ? And is there any way to increase IC besides national focuses and technologies ? I'm kind of afraid that the region type will block the industrial build-up for small / rural nations and wanted to have your opinion guys ! :D

You can use Civilian Factories to build various things, including more factories. Obviously also expanding will give you access to more factories and resources.

Though not confirmed, you do use your civilian factories to buy resources. The factories you use to buy said resources could maybe be used by the nation you're buying from.

Sorry. I thought you were referring to IC as in the amount of factories you have.

As for increasing it? Besides national focuses and events, no there isn't. At least as of now there isn't.

The only ways we have seen to increase factory slots are focuses (that normally add factories as well so they only increase the slots available to ensure that the focus can add factories even if a player fills that state up before taking the focus) and those few industrial technologies (both Concentrated and Dispersed give extra slots to make the choice a little less of a no brainer).

I guess the factory slots are mainly a way to limit countries from going crazy with industry. So the US can't fill the Mid West with as many factories as the North East, the UK stuff all it's factories into British Isles, or China somehow become an industrial superpower.

It was confirmed. From DD#23 about trade:

Trading for a resource locks civilian factories for its trade, which limits the amount of constructions of other buildings you can do, but if you export resources you will gain use of foreign civilian factories.

You have no control over who you export to, except you will not trade with anyone you are at war with. The amount of resources that are assigned to export depends on your trade laws which let your government demand resources for your own production. Embargos can be placed through certain national focuses as well to block trade.

Getting resources from another nation requires convoys, and it is always the buyer of goods that has to provide the convoys. Of course, this is all done automatically...

Hmm, maybe this will be a good strategy:

1. Play as Britain or France
2. Set your military factories/dockyards off building units
3. Sell all your remaining resources to gain foreign civilian factories
4. Use the resulting massive amount of civilian factories to build huge numbers of civilian factories in your own empire, starting off a giant industrial snowball

Or maybe export laws and the generally tiny amount of political points available to change them will get in the way.

Thanks I found it. The game has been so long in the making that even if I read religiously all DDs and devs comments, I do not remember all of it.

In december, we completely revised how you get factory slots in the game...Now the system is much more clear. Each state is set to a regiontype, which defines the basic amount of factory slots it has. Then we have various national focuses which will add to the cap of factory slots in a state, and finally there are various techs that give percentage bonus to how many factories a state can have.

Yeah, I know that but I'm mainly talking about the slot limit on a single state. Is there a way to increase it besides national focuses & technologies ? :D
the only way to increase the limit inside a state is, as you already stated, by national focus (industrial effort) and research (concentrated industry/scattered industry).

Infrastructure never increased the industrial cap, but rather locked available slots if the infrastructure level was to low. If a state had 8 available slots but the infrastructure is too low a few slots may be locked untill you upgrade the infrastructure. It wont increase the cap over 8.

How much of the captured industry can you use normally?

If the enemy had 100 IC, what is the normal amount, which is destroyed or damaged by fighting? And how much does it cost to repair?

And after you got the IC (repaired), how much can you use? I know it depends on laws, but how much can you use on the hardest and on the modest policy?

It depends on your occupation laws. The harsher you get the more resources and industry you can use but the less manpower you get and the faster the unrest rises. Harsher treatments also cost daily political power to maintain. The numbers themself of how much you get with what occupation policy are of course subject to change.

Yeah, the same happened to me. I was still thinking that it was linked to population & infrastructure one week ago. Too much stuff to read & learn ! :eek:

That one is a good additional cost to harsher policies. It will be difficult to use them everywhere if you conquer a lot of countries.
yeah. No sudden 500% increase of factories for you anymore after conquering only a few countries. :) Unless of course you pay the hefty political power cost, which ultimately caps you of how many countries you can milk for factories and resources of course. I dont know if you can actually get into negative Political Power a day, i would think so, but that wont be maintainable for a long period of time of course, especially since you need quiet a bit of political power.
