How to get rid of these stupid coalitions?

This is not possible in multiplayer (as I have tried it and failed) unless you want to piss off your mates by pausing, but

When fighting in a coalition war, be sure to peace out toward the end of the month, 20th or later.

After defeating the coalition, (they drop out) wait until a few days before the truce timer expires and they inevitably rejoin.

Single out a member you want to attack that you know would otherwise join the coalition as the truce timer expires.

Pause the day before the truce timer expires, unpause, (sometimes the -5 stab thing from trucebreaking still appears even if the truce is over)

Wait untill you no longer see that -5 stab on the declare war screen, and bring the hammer down. Usually you can beat the AI before they rejoin the coalition. I have done it numerous times in my Orleans game.

Alternatively you can just wait until the day ater the truce has expired, save the game and reload. The truce will now have cleared properly but the AI won't have rejoined the coalition, allowing you to pick whatever target you fancy. Obviously that won't work in MP, but coaltions are generally not the problem you'll face there.

Obviously that won't work in MP, but coaltions are generally not the problem you'll face there.

People are much easier to beat than AI, they don't constantly recruit new units in every province. They're much more amicable to giving up, or just not attacking you at all because they know they'll lose. XD

People know when they've lost. The AI doesn't know when it's lost and thus is forced to fight ridiculously drawn out wars over something halfway around the world.

But seriously, I saw DDRJake use a method to dissipate AE. He'd protectorate Ming and then "lose" a war to Ashanti to cancel his protectorate with Ming. Everyone would drop out of the coalition.

I know of the game in question, but I don't know what's going on in it; is he in a life or death war? Because I can understand stubbornness in those kinds of wars. Players generally are not that stubborn, though I guess there can be exceptions.

It's not life or death. Arumba just wants cores for a vassal and NL wants Arumba to 100% him first. He thinks it'll dissuade people from attacking him in the future (as in, not worth the trouble).

It's about truce juggling now. You either halt expansion long enough for AE to tick down, or you wage near constant war and keep powers on different truce timers so they can't all come at you at once.

says it all. Deefeat coalition once, and declare on the nations seperatly when their truce timers are gone. Somehow you have a month window to dow them after truce is gone, BEFORE they (re) join coalition.

When another nation comes out of truce, dow again. You can split and fight the old coalition in ten different wars, making things trivial.

Coalitions have no meaning anymore in my 1.8 game.

People that let coalitions get too big to handle, well, do the above.

Beating a coalition is always a good idea. The best way I found was to beat them, and force them to release/give back as many provinces as possible. It helps to have friendly nations around you and significantly weakens the coalition against you. If you manage to push back a coalition member far enough from you (i.e. liberate all Lowlands provinces form Austria and give Breisgau to somebody) that memeber will likely leave the coalition in a few years.

That's stupid. He's gonna be bleeding money, and for what, feeding the other guy army tradition from sieges? If someone let me 100% them, it wouldn't dissuade me from attacking them in the future, rather the opposite. :v

I've seen this many times on the forums. While France is in a prime/ideal situation to eat all the things in 1444, it's not in the position to do it alone at this point. Normally, getting an ally with one of your Iberian neighbors that didn't rival you (hopefully Castile since they're stronger and Aragon has a Foix core) and a moderate power or three to your east is pretty handy. Just make sure they're close enough to join your wars. Also, Austria can be a good ally if you get a start in which they don't rival you or can get them to stop rivaling you. After a bit of blobbing, you can start betraying your allies and feed them to vassals or something.

As for the problem of getting rid of coalitions, it's time to start repairing your diplomatic reputation. Try increasing relations with minor powers since eat of their armies adds up to potential problems (especially the multinational HRE doomstacks) later. If you don't take land near them or in their cultural group then the AE should melt a bit faster for them. As mentioned earlier, both Humanist and Influence idea groups have ideas that help reduce AE directly or give better relations over time. They also tend to go well with the French position for a while. With the cultural acceptance thing from Humanist you should be able to get English, Lombard, Castilian, and Catalan cultures accepted which helps buff you for impending wars.
