I was dreaming about stellaris, apparently. I woke up with this vision from GOD!

edit: The 0.5 base growth is way too low. That would be 200 months before a new pop is placed on planet. It was the 1st number that pop'd in head when I created this. Buff it to what ever number you want. The framework is what really matters

Yes, many people think parallel pop growth would be more efficient/clearer.

But the problem with that model is that the pop system isn't granular enough to make sense. It would work fine on a big mature planet, but on fairly new colonies, it would be pretty bad.

Imagine you have a recent colonies with 5 pops on it, all from different species. All of them start with 0 growth, and all of them start ticking at a rate of 1/5th the normal growth rate.
Your colony would stay at 5 pops forever, and then suddenly tick to 10 pops almost all at once. Not so great.

Job-based immigration/emmigration, however, absolutely needs to be a thing. Not so much based on open jobs (there are never any open specialist jobs), but based on the profficiency of the people working the available jobs (i.e. a scientist race should move to a planet where science jobs are done by a miner race and take their jobs from them). The displaced pop could even get a negative happiness modifier ("THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!")
