Hi guys, I may have a bit of a strange request. I just purchased a new laptop as I spilled water on mine, and had to get a Windows 8. The only game I play is Darkest Hour I was worried, but so far all is fine. However, on my HP laptop, my f12 key is to toggle on or off the wireless, so I am unable to use the 'freedom' cheat/tactic. I am playing AAR The Grand Campaign with Sweden, and would like to experiment with an Interventionist government.

Any ideas/helps guys? I love this game so much, I want to spend the weekend immersed in it!

4.) Make sure you set the Darkest Hour.exe to run with the NVIDIA or AMD graphic card NOT with the Integrated Graphic Card. (You can edit this in the control center of your graphic card.)
I have an AMD, and the AMD vision engine control center. Can find where I can change that, nor can find ANY answers on this...

Well first make sure you disable the intro in the settings.cfg and then right-click on Darkest Hour.exe and choose "Run with graphics processor" and choose not the integrated graphic card but the other one.

I can't run my game in 1920x1080 resolution when I turn windowed on. It stops working a couple of seconds after I start the game, lower resolutions do work though.

Another way to this and maybe better is this from eeeex

1.) Open Notepad and paste this in it:
Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers]
"D:\\Games\\Darkest Hour\\Darkest Hour.exe"="$ DWM8And16BitMitigation WINXPSP3 Layer_ForceDirectDrawEmulation"

2.) Save the file Click File → Save to open the save dialog. In the Save as type drop-down, select All files.

3.) Enter FixDH.reg in the File name field, and save the file.

4.) Locate the file using Explorer, and double-click it. Confirm Registry Editor's warning.

And now I can enjoy Darkest Hour in FULLSCREEN and on Windows 8 64-bit

Don't thank me, thanks to the guys that put that tutorial for Worms online and eeeex for this great method.

Thank you, this worked perfectly. For other people, note that you have to put the proper path of your game where "D:\\Games\\Darkest Hour\\Darkest Hour.exe"="$ DWM8And16BitMitigation WINXPSP3 Layer_ForceDirectDrawEmulation" is written, replace with wherever the game is installed for you.

For me this looked like "C:\\Games\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\Darkest Hour A HOI Game\\Darkest Hour.exe"

Yet another fixing proposal

1.) Download this archive: http://www.file-upload.net/download-...ineD3D.7z.html
2.) Extract all three files from the archive to the game directory (e.g. C:\Games\Darkest Hour)
3.) Run Darkest Hour Launcher and deselect the intro (important). Because this won't work if intro is activated. Then launch the game.
4.) When the game starts a black screen appears and it might "hang", don't worry it doesn't harm your system or anything, you just have to wait a little bit. For me it's roughly 10-15 seconds.

P.S.: I would be thankful for any feedback.

Maybe I just got used to the lag, but the game seems to be running more smoothly for me after the very latest Windows patch.

What patch do you mean? That Update 1 for Windows 8.1? If you mean that, than I must say that the lag still is noticeable and I quickly returned back to the fix ;).

I know it wont help, but I'd like to report that I get alot of random crashes from the stuttering. And its not even screen stuttering, its almost like the engine is skipping a beat everyso often. Thus leading to situations where live data gets lost in the matrix and it gives me a CTD. I miss Vista.. :(

Is there any reason why you can't use the windowed mode fix?
