Its just 14 days to EU4 release as of now. Once it is released to find out its popularity, go here:

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

Steam displays total players in each of its top 100 most played games at any moment in time there. I preordered EU4 but almost all my video game purchases get uninstalled in the first 2 weeks. I look forward to great enjoyment in EU4 for at least a short time.

Why is DOTA 2 so popular, anyway? It seems to dwarf all the other Steam games.

The same reason CoD is (or was) so popular.

It has a really low skill ceiling and the depth is incredibly shallow so it's easy to get into and people pretend it's hard to master.

It's not worth it, they're worse than byzantophiles, and it's also 2offtopic4me.

I don't think there is as far as I can tell.

Actually, paradox titles may show slightly less players than what is really the case, since their games have no drm. You can start the game from the steam folder, without requiring steam to start

Can folks play Paradox titles without Steam altogether? As I remember, I played EU3 without Steam. If that is true, then the Steam player statistics are way off for PDOX games.

Yes. But from what I understand, EUIV will be all steam. BUT, as I said, you only need it to download the game. Paradox enforce no DRM, so you can start the game from wherever you want after that
