I sent my favorite child to a holy order for the extra star boost, thinking that the “order member” trait would eventually convert to “holy order training” (my understanding is that the latter trait doesn’t disqualify holders from the line of succession and marriage). Am I correct in thinking one trait will/might eventually become the other? If so, what triggers can I push to speed it up?

I already tried designating him as my heir, which didn’t work. :/ He has such excellent stats and congenital traits — I really want my line to continue through him. Any advice would be appreciated!

As far as I am aware, you can't. Sending children to holy orders is a good way to disinherit them without spending the renown. I don't know about any “holy order training” trait.

You gave him to the church, so, no.. the moment he becomes a templar knight he's baned from any kind of succession, unless you use Debugmode to remove the trait.

If you want him benefit from taking part in great holy wars use him as your commander to gain the trait "Crusader"

Holy Order Training is not a trait, it is a modifier, given to those return from holy order,
but the only way I know which let they come back is 2 yearly event, one with higher chance is when you have no heir (or 1 only in partition),
another has lower chance, but will more likely to happen if the child is too weak.

(I tried to disband the holy order, but seems they wont come back just by that)

Holy order is a vow to not rule, like asking a priest to become king again but interesting to hear there's an event to simulate the grandmaster of the knights of santiago becoming the king of castile

it is not "just for training", they are sent to holy order normally and those event let them come back.
in the event he will lose the order member trait, and gain the modifier, but in my opinion, it is totally unworth.
not only because the holy order training is too weak (1prowess, 1material) , "waiting for a event" has too much uncertainty.

the one require you have no heir has 3000 weight, which is very high comparing to other events, but depends on the total weight, and DLC events,
it could need to wait more than 10 years, I dont think having no heir in 10years is a good idea.

the 2nd one is that he got fired, the event did not say it directly, but from the unwilling response of the ruler, and the fact that the weight is
100 x (number of skill below average), I believe so. I don't want such character come back.

ps. if the holy order is disbanded by cancel the last of their leased land, the children will come back to your court, can be hire as knight or grant title,
but they still has the trait and will not in the succession line.
