Not exactly your most eloquent reply. Which I'm slightly disappointed over, seeing as I do regard your posts with a higher authority than most.

My reasons are:

- Vassal feeding - gone, back, gone slightly back (I think)
- Milking natives for gold.
- PU went from somewhat measurable and navigable to "who the hell knows how to get a PU".

I hasten to add that most of these tactics I didn't even know about until hey were either nerfed, eliminated or shortly to be. I like having options whether they feel "gamey" or exploitable and I feel I have the right to voice my displeasure at having that list reduced.

You shooting me down with a "no" usually reserved for talking to small children trying to interrupt their parents conversation to ask for Ice-Cream at the store is not really helpful.

I know where the OP is coming from. When I first learned playing the game I had a lot of trouble and then I found the mighty console.

Over time, it became such a standard thing for me to simply add manpower or stability that after a while, I didn't have fun anymore playing. I tried not to use the console but it was just too easy to click that button.

So I finally made the switch to Ironman and my learning curve started all over again. I played so many games since then where I rage quit after 20 or 50 years, but at least I learned something every time.

Now I am getting a pretty good feel for the game and don't miss the console at all anymore. Easier said than done 'don't cheat' but as long as you know about the console and you can use it, there comes a time where some people are just too tempted (or weak :), myself included.

I think the only thing is to start playing Ironman with larger / stronger nations and learn to play the game that way before jumping into smaller nations/OPMs.

Pandering to peoples lack of self-restraint is one of the reasons the options of playing the game have more or less been stripped down to

- Declare war.
- Make peace.
- Wait for AE/OE to run down.

The running joke on EU3 was that any time spent not warmongering was wasting other countries forgiveness(burning infamy) lol.

Like the story of a drug junkie. Haha, just messin' with ya. I have the exact same problem, it's really hard to go without console. I don't even really cheat, to be honest, but I just use it too much for perhaps manipulating game mechanics the way I want them to work, which isn't anything horrible since I play the game for myself, but sometimes it can be counted as cheating. I also have the habit of ex. cheating with monarch points to sign an expensive peace deal, but then I subtract all the points I gave myself (often even beyond what I added, making myself go into negatives, to make it more fair, but it's still cheating).

But I personally can't get into Ironman because this game is not bug free and the last thing I want is to be struck with bugs in Ironman that I can't fix.

It's ironman or nothing. A tinman mode (ironman with mods, configurable settings and no achievements) has been proposed many times, but so far, no luck.

Going into MP mode and playing by yourself does disable the console, at least. In terms of cheat blocking, this is nearly as rigid as ironman, though of course determined cheaters won't have much issue cheating either way.

This thread is dumb.

While I'm inclined to believe you, I want to hope for the best. Maybe this guy has a few friends that play the game, and he wants to have a competition to see who can do the best in some mod or some non-standard starting setting, maybe a latter start date or with easy settings... and he wants some system in place to make sure nobody is just using the console or some other means to cheat after they've started.

I've had a similar situation come up before when I was younger and I tried to do a challenge like this in a single player rpg. My older brother used some cheats (editor) and nobody realized until afterwards when he admitted/bragged about it.

On the other hand, if you are someone who wants to not use cheats because you lack the willpower to not cheat, I strongly recommend you look into your lack of willpower. It's something that will haunt your whole life. Just because the game prevents you from cheating may not keep you from being able to cheese, keep you from playing with self-imposed limitations, keep you from reloading/restarting when things go bad, etc. That's a problem no matter what the game does, because it's a personal problem outside of the scope of the game that you really ought to look into. Having no self control is not something you want to coddle with games that don't let you cheat, it's something you want to develop!
