I am currently playing game in HIP as vassal of Byzantine empire and I want it to be torn apart, crushed, basically reducing its size and power so much that it will cease to exist (when empire is not big enough, it is destroyed in that mod). So, my question is: How to do that?

If HIP is anything like CK2+, it should break on its own after awhile. Otherwise just try to gobble up enough land and hoard your gold for mercs. Wait for a lost war and then declare your independence or seize the throne. Killing the emperors until you have a child or a fool on the throne would also be advisable as well. Marrying your sons into the ruling dynasty would also be a good idea, since you might get a chance to press the weak claim. Knowing HIP you probably won't be able to get away with forcibly matri-marrying a Byzantine prince with a strong claim to your daughter after inviting him to your court, but that could be another possibility.

In my first game in HIP, Persia dissolved, but Byzantine empire became really powerful by themselves, they took Hungary, all their de jure lands, even Sicily (it is not theirs de jure in HIP), Antioch, parts of Armenia and shore of Jerusalem. And something in Egypt. They are currently the most powerful and I am afraid that it will happen in this game too.

To be honest, I am really hoping for some heretic emperor or muslim invasion/djihad. And I also start to hate viceroyalties even more than I have before. It is good for emperors, but absolutely awful for their vassals or enemies.

That's the point.

There's always the option of disabling Charlemagne DLC, which removes Viceroys from the game.

1. Try to get most if not all of Anatolia to declare independence. Works rather well if you can get a child (female is usually better) on the Imperial Throne.

2. Win.

3. Take Constantinople from Byzantium.

4. As long as Byzantium hasn't expanded into the Balkans or Bulgaria, it should be small enough for the disintegration of an Empire event to trigger. (it is important to note that you must take Constantinople for the event to fire.)

5. Byzantium will be reduced to one of the Greek kingdoms.

Looking at the event file which should be responsible for the dissolving of empire tier titles, you just need to force Constantinople out of Byzantiums realm. Most other empires will dissolve if they have a realm size of less than 100 (150 and only after year 1100 in the case of the HRE)

Edit: However, if I am reading this correctly, it would seem that empires can only dissolve during the first thirty years of the game. Strange

Will it happen immediatelly after it is out of the empire, or after some years? Because I am planning to become king of Thessalonike, which has Constantinople as its de jure county, so I could probably get it and hold for some time before emperor returns and takes it back.

I believe that Byzantium has 30 years or so to take it back before the event triggers. This is there in order to allow Byzantium to not auto disintegrate during the Latin Empire starts.

Thanks for help, everyone. It was funny ride. Nicaea, Ikonion and Bulgaria are ATM controlled by three daughters of last emperor of Roman empire (who has decided to not fight Independence faction, which included one count and king of Thessalonikes, who controlled Constantinople...maybe it was because I kept his daughter in my dungeons after I took the city less than year ago) and didn´t change his succession laws from Gavelkind to something else, so after 10 years of creating all kingdoms that he could, he died and his 3 daughters inherited everything. First war between them has already started (one of them has Hungary as ally, so it is 2 v 2 battle) and I doubt that Gavelkind will change, so hopefully, in the next generation, former Roman empire will dissintegrate into many small kingdoms, fighting each other. And I will just watch the world burn :D

Thanks for help, everyone. It was funny ride. Nicaea, Ikonion and Bulgaria are ATM controlled by three daughters of last emperor of Roman empire (who has decided to not fight Independence faction, which included one count and king of Thessalonikes, who controlled Constantinople...maybe it was because I kept his daughter in my dungeons after I took the city less than year ago) and didn´t change his succession laws from Gavelkind to something else, so after 10 years of creating all kingdoms that he could, he died and his 3 daughters inherited everything. First war between them has already started (one of them has Hungary as ally, so it is 2 v 2 battle) and I doubt that Gavelkind will change, so hopefully, in the next generation, former Roman empire will dissintegrate into many small kingdoms, fighting each other. And I will just watch the world burn :D
I know this is an old thread, and I don't mean to necro. But I have to know what this map mod is. I have been looking everywhere for it but have never found it. If you could please let me know I would be very grateful.

It was used by HIP before they changed it to their current map mode (which is similar to this one, but with slightly different colors and so on).

I believe that Byzantium has 30 years or so to take it back before the event triggers. This is there in order to allow Byzantium to not auto disintegrate during the Latin Empire starts.

...but Byzantium did auto-dissolve after the Latin Empire was set up.
