Are the only people that attack raiders hiding behind their cars whomever you have stationed at the gate? I brought all of my specialists outside the gate to fight and they all just stood there doing nothing. Who is eligible to defend against these raiders?

There are workers stationed at the gate to fight the raiders when they are outside the gate. You have to control your specialists to attack them (like you would wild animals) when they break through the gate. Hope this helps!

I tried that, but it seems I'm not getting the normal 'click' sound you get when targeting animals even though the cursor turns into a targeting circle. And then the specialists don't do anything. I'll try again next time I get attacked.

Unfortunately, you cannot manually attack the raiders if they are outside of the gate; only the guards stationed inside the "Gate" can do battle with the raiders.

Then you will automatically lose the battle at the gate and the raiders will use "instant transmission" (skill they learned from King Kai) and teleport to random corners of your colony. Only then will you have the ability to manually control your specialists to do battle with these evil-doers!

Hopefully this helps you understand the uselessness of repairing your gate and you can watch helplessly as the raiders mow down your gate 100% of the time!

You still Can't target the bandits when they are inside. your colonist and specialist will auto attack when they get into range. Unfortunately if your specialist are not close and you have to manually select them and send them to the bandit position. your specialist wont attack until they have finished moving to the location. Which means the bandits will often get a few shots in before your specialist have finished moving and start fighting. and Seeings the bandits can kill your specialists in just a couple of hits you often lose your specialists before the fight is over. I find your normal colonist are better at fighting camp spawned bandits.

This is one aspect of the game that needs attention!

Ouch. I'll admit that I was getting quite frustrated when every couple of days more bandits would appear and destroy my gates again, while my specialist just stood there grinning. However, I seemed to be able to manually target the raiders with my specialists, just as if they were animals (which they are), once they teleported inside the gates. I wonder what the siege of Stalingrad would have been like if the Germans could have just magically appeared anywhere in the city?

It really does seem to work. Last game I went full defence, got the fortress gates and every few minutes bandit lord deathsmash Grimcrusher Von babyeater would summon the meteors and deploy his legions of teleporting supersoldiers to lay waste to my colony and burn down all my outhouses. This time? no gate upgrades, no problems.

I never upgrade the gate and yet they still show up. However, once you get to 100 colonists the attacks eventually seem to stop. Have enough guard towers and put colonists in them when the bandits show up at the gate. If needed, move colonists from other tasks for the battle. You need towers mostly at the gate for the main attack and in the far two corners. when their allies appear. The towers don't help much if you do not have any firearms.

Unfortunately I can confirm the attacks continue after getting to 100 colonists. Just had a magic bandit deathsquad melt my gate in literally a couple of seconds and rampage through my colony. Again.

I defend by putting a guard tower or two just inside the gate and in the back center and far corners. When the bandits show up I move two colonist from other tasks into each tower. Be sure you have enough firearms for that many colonists. The battles do no last very long. Quite often it tells me "Victory!" when it is over although there is still damage.

Putting towers at the gate is, at moment useless. Because during the gate attack phase, only guards in your gate will attack. And once your gate is breached the bandits randomly spawn somewhere at the back of you colony. And some time in 2 groups in two different locations. Even if you kill all but one gate attacker. Once breached anywhere between 3 to 7 bandits will spawn randomly. And as I said not necessarily in the same location.

The bandits always enter at the gate first and start fighting. They don't transport, they have friends that appear in the rear center or far corners of the colony. If you look in these areas just after the bandits enter you will see their friends walking towards your colony. This is why you put towers in all these locations. The bandits that enter by the gate don't live too long fighting the guard tower(s) and specialists. Once they are dispatched I send specialists to help where ever their friends are attacking. This is not a theory, I am reporting what actually works.

Actually the gate is only useful for access to the outside world. As for stopping bandits, a Fortress gate, filled with guards, and your colony making weapons. Will never stop an attack. The bandits will always destroy the gate, then transport to somewhere inside the colony and kill a few colonists. Once you finally kill the bandits. It's time to repair the gate for its next failure.

The fortress gate does not stop the bandits from getting though. Once in they don't transport. There are other bandits walking towards your colony after they break through the gate. You will see them approaching if you go look just after the gate is breached.

How to defend your colony :

1) Get specialists.
2) Make some guard towers.
3) Get invaded by bandits.
4) Get completely wrecked because balance issues due to early access..
5) Go back to step 1.
