So I'm playing as Al-Andalus caliphate, year is around 1180. The pope declares crusade on me for Al-Andalus, and instantly gets around 230% strength against me. How am I supposed to get muslims to defend me against the crusade?
They'll start trickling in as time goes by. But yes Crusades are hard to defend against. Save up for cash, increase troops in demesne, and try to use terrain and chokepoints to your advantage. Additionally if you park some troops on an island and let the main force go to the mainland, you can then safely send your troops to Rome to siege down the Pope. Also try to battle the Pope when you can in hopes of capturing him.
Pretty much what Caesarion said. Unless you have a well run empire happening it's almost impossible to defend against an early crusade call. Best bet is to try and capture the Pope (sometimes you can even nab him in the field lol).
Other than that, i've surrendered land a few times and then just waited for the right time to snatch it back. Other times i've just re-started, frustrating as that is.
