How to check what version you have

Hi,
Im just wondering how to check if i need a patch or not. How can you check what version number you have? Also, I have just bought the original Hearts of Iron 2 from gamersgate and they couldn't tell me for sure. They informed me it should be in the Menu somewhere but i can't find it. And lastly the expansion packs seem expensive as the original game was only £8.

On the right-top of the menu screen there are 4 letters which are called the checksum.

Doomsday is a standalone (you don't need to own HoI2 to play Doomsday), you would be better off buying that one instead of HoI2... Also, Armageddon is only $5, yet it adds a whole lot to gaming experience. I really recommend buying them all!
