What a cool idea! I'm going to implement this in my next city.

In the states we have "Bus Only" lanes, or HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) carpool lanes, but those seem to create more problems than they solve.

My train line is so messed up right now. My solution so far has been to just keep building more rail but these out of town wankers keep sending more trains to clog up my lines. I'm going crazy here, wished we had a busway for trains only. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

Superb idea! We really need proper buslanes and it's a very surprising thing to leave out but until its made part of a DLC or something, this will work nicely.

Another Brisvegas person. Such a great idea. My bus routes and train routes were a complete birds nest of chaos until I decided to do this. Now I have the main line that visits all the suburbs/boroughs and then individual bus lines with in those suburbs only that start and end near my busway stop.

My unemployment was hitting 37% but is now down to a fantastic 4% after getting this all straightened out. Just no one tell Campbell-Newman!

There are dedicated bus roads in Ottawa that connect to the streets. I have seen cars on them, (mostly Quebec plates, LOL) and they rather quickly find out they're not supposed to be there.

In the spirit of the thread title, could some people post some screenshots of their current busways? I'm not sure I'm maximizing my bus routes. I have four routes in my city of 17,000. Three routes do a milk-run through the residential areas and two of them have a stop that the fourth line is connected to which circles through the industrial. I have about 850 passengers per week which seems pretty small.

I built a busway, and it works very well. It's like an express bus between neighborhoods, going through industrial, residential and commercial zones. I use highway ramps, except for wherever there's a stop. Not sure if there's anything to gain over building more rail, metro or regular buses, but it's ... satisfying. Anyway, if you look closely at the screenshot, you can see a car parked inside the closed loop. Some cheeky citizens have spawned cars inside the busway and use it to get where they're going. They then park it in the other end. This doesn't generate a lot of extra traffic on the busway, but it's something I didn't expect ...

Brilliant idea mate, just started a new city to trial this concept and it works very well, the only drawback is that I'd like to increase the speed limit on the 2-way road (40) to the same as the single lane highway onramp (80) which would then be the same as the Brisbane Busways.

I actually just tried this out, built a busway between my residential zone and factory area. And somehow it works even better than my extensive metro system, which is always clogged. :D
