I gonna save the game then start as a HRE Emperor and destroy my own empire and then go back to my character again.

How to do it? I tried making vassals hate me, and many vassals do go for Independence but after like 10 years HRE collects them back.

So any tips?

thanks in advance

Easiest way to destabilize them is to get the Emperor excommunicated; just ask Henry IV. It’s his destiny. You can also cause an empire serious problems if you sack the ruler’s personal holdings and wipe out his troops, since that will leave him too weak to prevent a vassal revolt for some time. If you can somehow get him out of the picture at the same time, so much the better. Marking him as a character of interest will tell you who’s signing up for factions against him; you can send them some gifts to help them succeed, or even go to war at the same time his vassals are rebelling. You can also send your chancellor and spymaster on missions to turn his vassals against them.

None of those things require cheating. If you really want to cheat, you can trigger some really nasty events on the emperor, but you might as well just cheat yourself some money to buy mercenaries and invade.

An excommunicated regency after sacking the personal holdings.

Nine year old Adalbert I of Holy Rome and Hans the Regent both excommunicated, after Wurzburg got sacked. :p

Lorehead has some pretty good advice. If you catch the HRE emperor having a bad row with the Pope, request an excommunication. And what are you playing as? If you're after HRE lands, grab them from their revolting vassals, whenever possible.

If you are a medium-large empire, there is a good non-cheat way to break them up.
Simply wait until the HRE is stuck in a major independence war, then declare war on them and focus on eliminating any HRE stacks you find (but not the rebels!) to ensure their defeat. Usually they fall pretty quickly once a kingdom or two breaks free.

Well, if you really wanna cheat...

On the console type:
charinfo 1
hover the mouse over your char's portrait, his ID should appear on the information, with this information type:
give_title e_hre <your character's ID>
now youre HRE emperor so just destroy the title as you do any.

I dont know if you need money and/prestige to destroy titles as thats not something I usually do, but if so you can easily add them by typing, in the console:
prestige <value>
cash <value>

But as others have said, its infinitely more satisfying to do it fairly, you'll have that MWHAHAHAHAHA moment when you see it collapse.

Use the console to give the HRE to the Byzantine Emperor, then switch to him and destroy the HRE title.

You will probably have to use the console to redistribute a bunch of counties in the former HRE though.

You will probably have to use the console to redistribute a bunch of counties in the former HRE though.

That would merge both empires so the OP would have to do a ton of save game editing to split them.

Actually, there’s a very easy way to do this after all.

Even if you don’t play with Sunset Invasion, the Aztec Empire still exists, and you can find it in the Characters page of the ledger. Get his character ID, then give him the HRE title with titleowner e_hre char-id. Convert him to, say, Cathar, switch to him, give him 800 prestige, and destroy the HRE title. Switch back to your real character, and change the Aztec emperor’s religion back to Aztec if you care. In my test game, all the lands in the HRE immediately went independent.

Wouldn't it be enough to use "titleowner e_hre char-id" to transfer the empire title to someone without any titles? I don't think vassals are transferred when using the titleowner command and you would therefore end up with an unlanded guy without any vassals as the emperor.

And since this is not allowed the game will auto-destroy the title within a few game days...

I'm pretty sure it'll kick out a count and give it to the emperor. This happened on my game when I lost the Kingdom of Sicily but still had a vassal count in Bavaria.

When I tested this with titleowner e_hre 30205, the game froze.

Just tested it, didn't crash... But not excatly the desired result either.

The salin chick (30205) became emperor, without any vassals... But the Dukes and Count of the HRE still had her as liege, even though she didn't have any vassals...

Will try and play a little around with it, see if I can get the desired result.
