As per title, what is the best way to break large nations, sit on them till you see rebels? Force release?? Take provinces for Yourself???

If you have AoW, the single best way to break any tag is to ally with them, pull them into a war (the larger the better), and beat your enemies into submission. Once that's done, peace out the members individually and give your ally as much land as possible. Done correctly they'll be sitting on 300% OE or more when you're done, and every tag on the same continent will hate them because of the AE. Now drop your alliance and watch as the rebels tear them to pieces. This is virtually guaranteed to result in the complete destruction of the tag. Amusingly, what remains of the tag will still likely worship you thanks to the positive modifier from all the land you so magnamiously granted them :sleep: It won't even cost you as much as a single monarch point.

If they've already rivaled you, it won't work. So, the second best method:

Declare war for a war goal that you don't pursue. Occupy all provinces of their primary culture and drive up their WE to 10-20. Sit there w/o war goal until they get shredded by 100's of rebels in the other provinces. Kill their armies and force them to annul all treaties after that, taking some land yourself. Watch as a rainbow cascade of everyone from other rivals of theirs to trash minors dogpiles them into oblivion.
