I just lost a planet to titanic life forms. Apparently I cannot bomb the planet which makes it close to impossible to retake. How can I deal with this? Is it a bug or will I get the planet back after a certain time? Does anyone know?

Damn it... are there any known workarounds? Is this bug really so hard to fix? Do the developers of the game read this forum?
They read your bug reports if you actually post in the bug report forum. Register your game and you will see the bug report forum.
As @Robotkiller said a little bluntly, post a bug report with saves and a screenshot and it has a greater chance of being reviewed.

Use the command /debugtooltip to show pop ids
Then use /kill_pop "pop id here" to kill all the pops, this uncolonises the planet and lets you recolonise.
Invading with enough armies to kill the Titanic armies would also work I imagine.
In theory you could do it with minimal losses by juggling alternating waves...
Yeah...tried that when it happened to me.... it takes a lot of armies!
It's far easier to just make sure your world has enough troops on it before studying the surly Titans.
