Bah nobody ever mentions the Kadets (Constitutional Democrats) they're my favorite party! GO KADETS!

I wonder if I can play Russia and join a political party as the Tsar...granted that was a bit uncharacteristic of Nicholas I :p

Yes, I know that there were some other factions vying for power, and I know that there were a lot of good and decent people that were deceived by Lenin's promises. (I have relatives who were Jews and who became communist revolutionaries because communism offered them a reasonable chance of being just people among people. But, in hindsight, they were deceived and those who did not end up in Gulag during the Moscow trials, were disposed off during the campaign against the cosmopolitans).

That said. There was probably a reasonable chance that some other party, such as the more moderate and pro-democratic menscheviks could have hold on to power. This should be reflected in Victoria.

I still don't see the most interesting gameplay issue being discussed much, which is that we can't VOLUNTARILY move to socialism if what we are inferring is correct. We have to engineer the revolution by our own (the government's) actions. Which puts in an interesting quandry in terms of what the "grey mass" we play in Vic really is if we can't play that gray mass socialist.

Seems like there will be a lot of people (me included as an experiment) who might want to "go socialist" and would like to encourage the movement w/o the centuries of oppression...

According to the information we have seen thus far, I think it is fairly safe to say that we can "voluntarily" change to socialism, without a revolution. That is, if we raise the consciousness of the lower classes high enough (militancy may not be needed, but from what I can tell it takes abuse to make they go socialist so...) they will eventually turn socialist. If the nation is parliamentary or democratic to a point, we should be able to host elections, and if the lower classes are active enough, then they will likely vote socialist.

Mind you, there is much we have not been told as of yet regarding governments and parties, therefore if it is true that communism requires a revolution to come by, maybe it wont be as perfect a system as we all hope as implemented in the game. Who knows, maybe when we get the game we will be working our butts off to prevent the lower classes from going socialist, as the mechanics require (ie, the fleeing of all the upper classes and therefore the collapse of the economy, etc.).

peace,
