How to avoid Great War? Technical Question

In my ongoing game with Platinea (see sig) I'm drawn into a war against Peru on Ecuadors side. The pop up in which ecuador requests my help says that I will become in the great war. How does this happen? I'm a Great Power (#5) but neither Peru nor Ecuador are. So why does it become the Great War?

So I'm looking for a way to avoid beeing involved in the Great War (as I want this label for later more epic war) whithout avoiding the war at all.
Can anyone of the modding gurus lend me some help here?

It's not "The Great War", it's a "great war". There can be several.

Didn't know there could be severals. Always thought there could be only one in every Victoria game.
