Nicely done Ironhead.
I just restarted a new campaign as Germany 1936 with the difficulty levels bumped up a notch, along with the AI aggressiveness (I only play vanilla however). Although I have been playing this game for over 2 years I learned quite a few things from your AAR (I especially liked the Convoy raiding "Night only" box....I don't know how I ever missed that).
Someone wrote it in an earlier reply but Paradox should get you to write the new manual for HOI 3.....Customers would sure be able to enjoy the game a lot sooner if they understood how it works.
PS-I manage about half of the time to invade Britain in 1940 before I turn on the USSR. It helps if you take control of Italy's Navy to keep the Royal Navy busy, but I have done it without control of Italy as well (Hell, sometimes Italy does better when I am not meddling in their affairs, dividing my attention between the Wehrmacht and the Afrikan theater).
The secret to invading England is to secure a beachhead, and then ferry as many troops across in under a week as you can. Have the Luftwaffe set on mostly Naval Interdiction to pound the Royal Navy that shows up (and they will show up).
Once you have 15-20 Div's in England, cut off the southern portion and drive for Glascow and Scapa Flow with 2-3 Panzer forces... Don't forget to take the little island just northwest of ScapFlow...if you don't, England will land some Div's there, and you won't be able to clear them out.... and they will grow to 5, 10, 20, 50 Div's.....a real pain in the butt.
I have been successful over half of the time in 1940 before my invasion of Russia. Plus, I don't have to worry as much about the Allied bombing of Germany from the bases in England.......helps a lot.
Looking forward to the next installment.
