Or, if you don't want to conquer the United States, you could just nuke 'em.

That would require developing nuclear-armed ICBMs to attack the United States from across the Atlantic.

I say that because one time I was playing as Germany and I used nuclear-armed ICBMs to nuke Canada.

Just to mention it once again: This is by far the best tutorial for a total newbie I have ever had the pleasure to read.

I have just released Vichy France and am now preparing for Yugoslavia and Russia. I think I have learnt quite a lot in the last two weeks reading and playing your AAR. I have come to love the game and consider it as good as EU2 and Victoria which I never thought I would as WW2 is not really my favourite period in history.

So thank you once again for sharing your approach with noobs like me! I hope you will invade Britain as you mentioned in your last post - it would make for an interesting read! Even if you don't, this AAR has proven invaluable to me!

See you on the forums!

I will - but I haven't made much progress on the game in the last few days, so it will be a little bit longer before I get around to posting the invasion of Great Britain. Thank you for the kind words, and I am happy to hear that you are getting some use out of this AAR. :)

Very well handled so far. I like the way you don't over complicate things and keep it simple enough to make it easy to understand.

A little note on the Romanian problem that Sufi had. Romania has two Government changes. It is just possible to have them join the Axis during the first change but you have to be ready and already have good relations as its a short period of time. Once it reverts back again Romania won't be able to join until after the Soviets claim Bessarabia.

Nicely done Ironhead.

I just restarted a new campaign as Germany 1936 with the difficulty levels bumped up a notch, along with the AI aggressiveness (I only play vanilla however). Although I have been playing this game for over 2 years I learned quite a few things from your AAR (I especially liked the Convoy raiding "Night only" box....I don't know how I ever missed that).

Someone wrote it in an earlier reply but Paradox should get you to write the new manual for HOI 3.....Customers would sure be able to enjoy the game a lot sooner if they understood how it works.

PS-I manage about half of the time to invade Britain in 1940 before I turn on the USSR. It helps if you take control of Italy's Navy to keep the Royal Navy busy, but I have done it without control of Italy as well (Hell, sometimes Italy does better when I am not meddling in their affairs, dividing my attention between the Wehrmacht and the Afrikan theater).

The secret to invading England is to secure a beachhead, and then ferry as many troops across in under a week as you can. Have the Luftwaffe set on mostly Naval Interdiction to pound the Royal Navy that shows up (and they will show up).

Once you have 15-20 Div's in England, cut off the southern portion and drive for Glascow and Scapa Flow with 2-3 Panzer forces... Don't forget to take the little island just northwest of ScapFlow...if you don't, England will land some Div's there, and you won't be able to clear them out.... and they will grow to 5, 10, 20, 50 Div's.....a real pain in the butt.

I have been successful over half of the time in 1940 before my invasion of Russia. Plus, I don't have to worry as much about the Allied bombing of Germany from the bases in England.......helps a lot.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Ironhead 5, where do the 25 GARs come from that you deploy in Russia during Operation Barbarossa? You write: "As we advance, don't forget to strategically redeploy our GARs from Memel to key points in the Soviet interior." Either I haven't found the passage where you started their production or you have forgot to mention it. Are these GARs that had already been deployed elsewhere (Poland, Yugoslavia) or are they freshly produced units? Thank you in advance for a short answer!

I edited one of my updates (the one with the invasion of Greece and the preparations for an invasion of the Soviet Union). The new edit prescribes starting a run of 99x3 GARs in January 1941, and allowing the serial run to accrue some GARs by the time you need them that summer.

Oops! Thank you for the fast reply! Well, seems I have to make that at least 99x5 or better 99x7 now. It's already May, 1st in my game.

A suggestion: do the Soviet Union next. And if you do emphasize Artillery research.

And INF 41 research, if I recall Blue Emu's advice correctly. If I get some time to do another walkthrough AAR I surely will do the Soviets, they are the next easiest to prescribe instructions for.

Why the Soviets? SOV is a pretty straightforward game- you wait for the Germans to invade, knock the stuffing out of them, and don't let your hordes of INF stop until they've reached the other side of the Atlantic.

I'm honestly surprised that you didn't suggest playing the UK, which I'd much prefer seeing.

True, I'd love to see what someone else can do with the world's coolest Navy.
