How Paradox’s Crusader Kings II to Europa Universalis IV save converter will work
Paradox Development Studio has announced ambitious DLC for Crusader Kings II which will convert your saves from the medieval, Eurocentric sandbox into a playable mod for the upcoming, globe-spanning Renaissance simulator, Europa Universalis IV. Yes, this means that you could potentially play the same faction through over 950 years of alternate history, from CK2: The Old Gods’ start date in 867 A.D. to the end point of EU4 in 1821 A.D. I had a chance to grill Henrik Hansson, a programmer who worked on the DLC, on the specifics.

I think it's bad that you get the Sunset Invasion aztecs just for having the DLC installed. The Sunset Aztecs should not be activated unless they invade.

This is how it works, read again in the second page. Only if you activate it it will form the huge Empire. Actually, it should be a really cool what if scenario.

I don't think so! I reckon most people playing CKII have mods on.
Nevertheless, do you know if it's possible? What do you mean by "adjust"?
Most of the people you know play mods :)
There were statistics on the CK2 forum somewhere, I don't have time to look for them. IIRC >90% of users play vanilla. Mod users mostly play Game of Thrones and CK+.


There are tables in converter with assotiations (province in EU4)->(province in CK2). If you have added provinces to EU4 or CK2, you just need to add assotiations for them and it should work fine.

I have a question for the moderators .. i have CK2 with 50% of the dlc 2 expansions etc. How will we receive the converter , do i add it as a dlc to my already owned ck2 ? How will this work ??

The only DLC the Converter cares about is Sunset Invasion (as it lets it know that this is an alternate universe where Americas are advanced).
Other DLc won't matter for the Converter as ALL of their features are in CK2 vanilla, just unavailable to players who didn't buy the DLC.

If you mean how the Converter is used, from what I understood: it is a regular DLC: if you have it, the "Export game" button in the game will not be grayed out and once you click on it, it generates a mod that it puts into EU4 directory.

Already been working on cleaning up my good ol' Nubia game. Though becoming likely African tech group and thus not having ships to defend Rome (which I hold)... well, part of the challenge.

Still, the save is starting to shape up quite nicely. Just need to use some edit-nerfs on Super France (which holds most of Iberia...) by creating some new independent states down there and I'll likely be golden. Though, until I actually have the importer in my hands, it'll be hard to know for sure what is and isn't needed.

I do, however, like playing God and sculpting the world a wee bit. "Hmmm... Golden Horde, Ilkhanate, and Cumania are all strong and still Pagan in the 1400s... if this had been during ToG, there's no way Tengri wouldn't have reformed! Congrats Khan of Cumania, you just reformed Tengri! Bah, but look at those borders... You know what, GH and Ilkhanate? Just trade all those little enclaves you have between each other. And bah, still have the ugly little blend of both Ilkhanate and Golden Horde stuck between Cumania and the ERE, nowhere near either horde. The "High Chiefdom of Kartli" has a nice ring to it, I think."

Sadly, the only Muslim state still alive are the Almoravids... who have been displaced into Mali and have turned Ibadi. And probably need to release Tunis as an independent state, since it's held by a Catholic Berber Finland... What can I say? I want my imported CKII game to have nice, clean borders and some semblance of balance. If I'm in a higher tech group than I expect with Nubia, they too may need to have some pieces clipped off.

It's like any DLC you get for CK2. If you have the GG version of CK2 you need to pre-order the GG EU4, Steam CK2 needs Steam EU4

I have a question about the HRE.

In my game I have created the HRE, but it isn't my primary title, the Wendish Empire is (I'm also Emperor of Carpathia). I have high crown authority, and could turn it up to max any time I want.

What happens on conversion?

Most mods (save for map-mods) should be preety easy to update the converter to. Just add the new cultures and religions to the spreadsheet. Luckily, the converter creates dynamic tags for EUIV, rather than using CK2's title table, otherwise you'd have to add every single new title, titular or not, and every single new mercenary company, to the converter. I dont think the converter goes looking for much more than that (in terms of stuff you can mod).
