Not that it really matters, since I will purchase the game reguardless, but how strong is the AI out of box? Or even better, how strong is the AI after 1.01 if any of the betas can comment?

You can break it down if you want, military AI, economic AI, diplomatic AI, as much detail as possible please.

I have heard that the AI is pretty strong. I plan to have it take care of all my heavy lifting around the house.

I've yet to go to war yet so I can't really tell you :)

But, on a strange note.. Ottomans seems to think Sweden would make an excellent ally, they offer me an alliance every now and then.

In a sense that is good AI (North/South against Russia) but a bit ahistorical.. or?

Well....irl you weren´t the king of Sweden....perhaps the AI Ottoman empire senses that you rule with the power of hindsight. :)

Yes, considering he's getting his butt kicked by the ruskies I'd say so :)

Now if Russia hadn't declared war on OE so early I might have been able to build up a military and considered it..

Btw, how does Mobilization work? If I increase my mobilization.. then field the units.. what happens to them when I un-Mobilize them (I assume you can)? They return to the pool? What if they got slaughtered etc?

And who gave you this information and why do you think it's reliable?

if its in irc then probably users of that network ;), there was someone who tried to improve the russian ai with success(?).

the general opinion is that the ai has potential but isn't that good right now (i translate that as crap)

patric: nice comment.

The AI is... well... good so far after an hour of play as Prussia. Or I am not a good military strategist. Holland didn't put up much of a fight but then I got tricked into the Great War against Austria and they just kept on flowing into my border. I gave up as my border couldn't be defended. My major force was busy routing rebels in Holland and a large force was dispatched against... Guam was it? No Burma. Oh heck. Somewhere in SE Asia. This was prior to the war against Austria so I wasn't at all prepared. So the few remaining forces protecting the border against Austria couldn't do much of a fight. And the crappy Austrians got a lot of expeditionary forces from their allies!!

And this was on the easiest, easiest setting.

So far I've got only good things to say about the AI. For example I was playing as Sardinia-Piedmonte and my great ally, France, actively started marching across my borders to restore order as my provinces rebelled while I was busy attacking the other small states of Italy down south. But later I was eventually defeated by the treacherous Austrians which overwhelmed my country with 100s of thousands of men, however I was able to flee to Sardinia with my remaining men. French tried to help but were eventually engaged to war on two fronts and had to sign peace...

I tried to hold out at Sardinia and wait for the infamous EU2-style 'Austria offers offers peace, demanding 0$' but it didn't happen even when I waited it for years...still kept demanding most of my territorty which I declined. Game over for me then.

Testing a quick game with Prussia and DoW with France proved to be fatal for my 'Reich', they seemingly kept border clear of troops but it was not 'Parademarsch' to Paris. They quickly mobilized reserves and counter-attacked furiously. I played normal/normal settings.

AI seems solid to me and seems to give a tough fight. Paradox must have developed it's best AI yet, it is CERTAINLY NOT like HoI AI was when released a year ago. So rest assured!
