My third game now with karaman. actually it was extremly easy to establish myself in east anatolia and caucasus. my problem was just one thing. my alliance to mamluks.
they are extremly powerful now, have huge armies but dont help. the mechanic where u can tell ur ally to siege certain provinces doesnt work at all. i had now 3 long tries, each 2 hours where i established myself easily in early game but lost everything because i trusted in mamluks.
i start a war against ottomans, and the reaction of mamluks is priceless. instead of using our both armies to attack ottomans, which would make the war easy to win, mamluks decide...to go in circles. they run around in egypt for no reason, doing nothing. in my 2nd game they went to morocco to siege 1 province while leaving me fighting all alone against ottomans. when they are about to siege moroccos province they break it up because morocco sieges theirs and make morocco siege theirs while not being able anymore to join me in my war against ottomans. these situations happened in all 3 games. i have no idea how i should motivate them joining me in anatolia, because they simply dont want to somehow. when i go to them with my armies and tell them to join mine, they just let their vassal join me but actually dont follow my army or help me in any kind of way in anatolia. i am srsly fed up right now and not motivated to start a new game with karaman. but to come back to the topics question is, what is your strategy to make the a.i. do what u want in war. sometimes they are helpful, as i could see in other karman runs on youtube, but in all of my 3 games mamluks simply didnt move at all into anatolia. should i maybe only attack when i am having 1 more huge ally? i am playing the game for 3 years and the a.i. changed its mentality during this time many times, and it was always a mystery to anticipate their behaviour. i cant see any pattern at all. there are just sometimes these moments where u just hope your ally to be at least decent and then the whole run gets destroyed by total nonsensical behaviour.

I find the easiest way is to put a 2 stack nearby or on their units, select friendlies to attach, pray they attach to my units, then command that 2 stack+ally with my main army as a backup. Why a 2-stack? At least in early game, this way if you're attacking a 12 stack or something and you just happen to arrive a day earlier because broken attachment rules, you don't get 10:1'd and have to waste time trying to get them to re-attach to a different stack. It's much easier to just have vassals or marches attach, the ally AI can be quite stupid/finicky and break off to go liberate a 1/1/1 wasteland of theirs that got sieged down.

For what I have seen the AI will seek any enemy armies they are sure they can defeat. Same goes for forts, if they predict that they can siege it and not being attacked in bad terrain in the process they will focus on that.

In my current game as byzantium during my first war with the Ottomans the Mamluks attacked first Tunis while Poland, and my army focuses on the balkans. After taking Tunis out of the war all the Mamluks armies when back to Syria. Destroyed the ottomans vassals near Jerusalem and the main ottoman stack in Aleppo.

If you relly entirely on one Ally you will provably have troubles because the somethimes erratic movements of the AI will be focused on just one big Army. But as more allies are involved they thend to mitigate the erratic behavior. Because instead of just one army deciding to siege, hunt enemy armies or reiforce a fight you have 2, 3 or maybe 5 friendly armies doing the same. In the long run that will secure at least one ally sieging enemy forts, at least one always ready to reinforce, etc...

In short terms, get more allies, or get allies with vassals. The Ai could still be better... but we have to deal whit what we have for now

I found that there are currently many bugs on a.i. moving. on my 4th attempt mamluks didnt move after i peaced out tunis and after i restarted the save game they started to move. and it took them 5 years to conquer 1 province, they had 1/10 dominance but couldnt manage to siege a single province

Generally the worse the army quality the more idiotic the AI. Since ottoman has the highest army quality early there are so many brain meltingly stupid things the opposing AIs like Mamluks do.
