If a kingdom with Mongolian as it's primary culture controls Persia, I guess it could form the Ilkhanate. I think this is rather unlikely, since a Mongolian player isn't likely to decide to play as a Persia vassal.

The hypothetical Ilkhan tag would effectively be a vanity tag with much less reason to exist than Great Yuan. What if a Kingdom with Greek as it's primary culture conquers Afganistan, should they form the Bactria tag? Probably not, let them be Greece or Byzantium.

What about any Persians that wanted to reform the IIkhanate? I know that timur wanted to restore the mongol empire so it may be possible, but i got no clue.

From the Point of View of someone of Persian culture, the Mongols were barbarian invaders whose conquest was humiliating.

Il-Khan means subordinate Khan, so it doesn't make sense for someone to adopt that title.

Timur's historical culture was a Turkish-Mongol fusion. In game his Empire is considered to have Uzbek as it's primary culture. Timurids is already a good name for his kingdom.

Well actually, Gurkani is a better name for the Timurid Empire. ;)

Ilkhanate is unlikely, but on the other hand, we got Yuan and Sultanate of Rum, thus one should never say never. ;)

It was actually more probable when Jalayrids were around as a tag, as they were the stronger successor state of the Ilkhanate and would certainly try to restore it.

It's probably more far-fetched than either GH or Yuan and given the game's start date I'd say no. If there were still direct Ilkahnate successors about I'd say do it.

Keep in mind Mongolian invasion cost Persia alot... Town were sacked and populace completely killed even children... Libraries were burned and with that many Islamic science, it is seen as rather dark era in Persian history. I don't think any Persian player including me wants to restore ilkhane lol.

I guess so. At least the Genghis Khan/Ogedei era (when the Ilkhanate did not exist yet)... Well, cities who did not resist were spared... but yet, the toll was very high indeed.
But if I may, I've read that the Ilkhanate period itself (or at least, after Hulegu) was more a period of reconstruction where Persia eventually began to flourish again (before being destroyed again by Timur). No?

When the Il-Khanate collapsed, it collapsed. After Abu Sa'id died in 1335, the state disappeared almost overnight. The Chobanids and the Jalayirids both toted around pretender khans to prop up their own regimes for a few years, and a few other pretenders floated around for a few years longer, but literally within a year of Abu Sa'id's death, the entire edifice of the Il-Khanate had utterly collapsed and had been replaced by not only the Chobanids and Jalayirids (in the center fighting over Tabriz), but also the Muzaffarids in Yazd, the Injuids in Fars, and the Sarbadars and the Kartids in Khorasan. And that's not to mention all their Turkish beylik vassals (including the Ottomans) in Anatolia. Things were so chaotic that puppet khans and pretenders rose and fell with alarming regularity, and by 1353, only eighteen years after the death of Abu Sa'id the House of Hulagu was utterly extinct. The great traveler Ibn Battuta, who had passed through a strong il-Khanate on his way east in 1326, was shocked by the chaos that greeted his return journey through the area in 1347. Certainly by 1444, there really wasn't anyone who actually wanted to resurrect the old Il-Khanate, nor was there actually anyone around who could even remotely claim the throne.

I understand your point Demetrios.

However, my recreation of the (divided) Mongolian Empire would have been so much better with the actual Ilkhanate instead of the Timurids proxy I had to chose. ;)

There were around 10 ilkhans before 1335... They had a short reign since the Ilkhanate lasted from 1256 to 1335. And afterwards, the Ilkhan title was used for puppet rulers controlled by Persian families (maybe not only Persian). But Demetrios explained it better than me.
Sure, under the Safavid, Persia was rebuilt and flourished far more than under the Ilkhanate, but they had a lot more time to rebuild, so this is hard to compare. The Ilkhans may have done a good job during the short time they where in charge (if you put aside religious tensions before the conversion of the Ilkhanate to Islam :/ ). For instance, even during periods of conflict between the different Mongol Khaganates, they tried to maintain a relative pax mongolica, and relatively safe silk road for the merchants (it was never as safe as during the Mongol Empire period tho). But I'll need to read more about the late Mongol period ^^

thats not the point the mongol empire divided into 4, 3 of them are present in the game i just talk about the 4th. why not, doesnt it make sense as yuan chagatai or golden horde?
