As many others here I have a record on Avalon Hill games, I still play ASL (SL Cross of Iron since 1986) when I can hook someone up on it. These days I play GMT games when it comes to cardboard, especially their Eastern Front Series. They are among the few surviving companies who still produce top quality cardboard war games. They also support their games through VASSAL, which is kind of neat if you want to play with people who don't live nearby.
I have not played much Table top, but some indie systems. When i turned 14 I got into Role-playing and still gather some friends around a table to throw some dices.

19, been playing since I was 17. First game I had was HOI2 in about three years before that. Had no idea what it was so I didn't really bother playing it till I saw HOI3 in stores. I recognised it bought a copy and gave it a go. Hooked to Paradox games ever since.
I like threads like these. I generally think of myself as still a "kid" and young and all but then I got to looking at the post here. I'm beginning to notice that ever so slowly my age is starting to creep up on me in correlation to the number of players that are appearing now days who are younger than me. I also starting to freak out when I remember the "90's".
Of course I'm only 23, 9/25/87. Stumbled across HOI1 at a friends house who let me borrow it. Returned it to him the next day after I went to the local Game stop and bought myself a copy. Been hooked ever sense.

It is interesting to see how many folks here mention the old commercial board wargames. I still have shelves full of Avalon Hill, Simulations Publications Inc, Game Designers Workshop, Victory Games, etc, etc. Notice the HoI3 'counters' unit view have 'attack number - defense number' that seems to be in the same scale as the old cardboard games.
Now-a-days all the commercial board games seem to come from Germany and have little bits of wood instead of cardboard...
The rules for basic, ordinary squad level machine guns changed with each & every addition to Avalon Hill's Squad Leader. Folks were using scissors & tape to keep the rulebook up to date. Task Force's Star Fleet Battles was even worse. Even so, we were all so happy when a new module came out.Is it does. Also if any one remembers SPI's War in Europe or AH Squad Leader, then you understand where lots of us got our patients for patches.

49 here, been a wargamer since 14, and I guess I'm the third oldest after Scythyan and RickR. Started computer wargaming with glorious SSI back in the late 80's and since then i scrapped all of my boardgames: they were great and I have a lot of good memories about them, but nothing can beat the ability to save a game and start from that very same point the very next day without having to unfold the map and countless counters. That for me was the turning point when I decided to go for PC wargames.
