How often does one play as Shia?

I recently started a Shia-game (CM, ruler designer, ironman) > the Khomeini-dynasty, starting of in Qom. The rest will be history...

Abbassids are starting to crumble, allready there is a Shia Caliph in Syria... things are looking up. Only one problem, for some reason my (fourth) character suddenly turned Sunni! My entire family is Shia, so in the end it's no biggie, but how the hell did that happen? I did give Sadaqah one time... anyway.

Best guess, he converted to his capital province's denomination. Check his wives, too: one or more might be Sunni, in which case he converted to please her.

So he converted without "asking" me (let alone inform me), the player and supreme controller of CK2-virtual life? Ehhh... okay... is that WAD?

edit: And yes, Qom was still Sunni and he probably had a sunni wife here and there...

Yeah, they can do that, perfectly WAD but not ideal for the liege (-5 opinion for Religious Differences). I had the Duchess Regnant of Iceland convert to Orthodoxy once because I had matrilineally married her to a Greek fellow I had invited up earlier to be a commander.

I haven't played Shia lately - but I let the randomizer pick my starting character, so I never know what I'm going to get.
