Aah, ok. I have games on a steam account but I have purchased them all on DVD's.

Yeah, all your games are linked to your Steam account, so you can download/install/play them on any computer that you're logged-in on.

You can't be logged in on more than one PC, though, so you can't share your account info and play HOI3 with a friend, for example.

Hi,

...... . I don't think it will let more than one copy of 'your' game to be used at one time.

This depends on the Game ..... better .... on the implementing of the DRM ...
I have games .. that only need to start over steam, no change if i have Steam in online or offline mode.
If you start an game in offline mode, steam cant check if you run another instance of your steam account on another PC.
(you can only have your Steam account ONE count online at Time - if you try to go online with the same account on another PC - the first online Steam client will then be closed)
Then it gives games . that need to check periodical that the DRM is valid - you musst go all 2-4 weeks online ... between this - you can play flawless offline.
The games that really NEED an online steam client to play are very rare ...
But -> it gives the other side - Games that have no interest after install on steam online/offline more but connect to his own server to verify the DRM (most over unique keys) and here you musst really buy, one copy for every PC.(Wargame series or Giants games)

So it is ATM not know, which DRM mechanic HOI IV will have IMHO ...

I bought EU1, EU2 and Victoria 1 in stores. Vic was had to find. HoI2 might have been bought in stores too but I'm not so sure... I do remember ordering Doomsday from the online shop paradox had then.
But these days are long gone.

This. I really hope they have a maxi super pre order limited exclusive edition for the fans. I would gladly pay up to 20 euros more to support Paradox.
Let's start slowly shall we. With all the DLC that will come you'll have plenty of opportunity to throw money at paradox.

Just look at CK2 and EU4, the regular price of the full bundles are over 100$ each.

EUIV is $20 on Steam. I think this game will get to the under $20 mark much faster than the 16 months it took EUIV. They are really missing the mark by putting it out in the spring (if it's even released on time) instead of the fall. 50% discount on the bundle by Xmas 2015 is my guess which is good since you always want to wait about 6 months before buying any Paradox games unless you want to pay for the privilege of beta testing.

Yup.

And unlike with a disc, if your computer blows up while you're playing, you'll still have the game.

I wish steam would've been around sooner.

I probably have like 30 games that I've either lost the discs for, or the discs are completely trashed.
If Steam existed at the time, I'd still have them.

If I've bought previous games, have I gained practical that will reduce the price of HOI4 for me, or possibly allow me to buy it sooner? Does it cost resources?

I've got some great games on perfectly good discs that I've lost the boxes for.

So... without the key-code, I can't install them ever ever again

I know a lot of people give Steam some really bad press but, just for the ability to reinstall a game when your hard drive dies, it's priceless.

IMHO :)

I think this game will get to the under $20 mark much faster than the 16 months it took EUIV.
I think it comes down to how popular the game becomes. EU4 was incredibly popular, and built upon the success of CK2. HoI4 is more narrow in it's targeting group, so I don't believe it'll sell as good as EU4, at least not as quick.

Then again, a big reason for their ability to decrease the cost is DLCs. They have loads, and HoI4 has a ton of cosmetic possibilities in that department!

If it's like EU4 or CK2 (after RoI), you will need to be online to play MP, which means you and all your friends will need an individual copy each when you play together, even on LAN. You'll surely need to be online for Ironman mode to get achievements (most likely, unless they change it for some reason). However, you could theoretically play it in more than one PC with the same account on offline mode, though without achievements or multiplayer, and where's the fun in that?
