I spend 5 at the beginning and then forget about it for the rest of the game.

The Papal state gets too much influence right now and I don't think it's worth spending all of your influence trying to grab control. I'd rather spend my influence on Stability increases rather than a % chance to become the pope.

Depends how much I Papal Influence I have/get and whether I need other papal functions more, like more stabs/backup stabs (main reason to stay catholic IMO).

I usually only invest in popechance once I already have stabs and PI coming out of my ears. Generally, it's a low priority for me since I prefer guaranteed outcome over RNGesus.

None. I just let it pile up to 100 and then hit the +1 Stability button. Otherwise I just spend all of it to get like 45% chance and RNG always picks someone else. I end up with no Pope, no influence, no stability.

The only real time I try to reliably get curia controller is if I am playing as either Papal states or Florence. Florence has NI for Papal influence and the Papal states makes decent ally for the Italia region so naturally you get alot of points to spend.

But the whole rng aspect can really suck and I would probably appreciate the mechanic more if say you kept half your influence or some influence refunded if you fail to get elected so it doesn't completely feel like the investment is entirely wasted.

Same with Brittany when their 4th idea is unlocked. Having +2 yearly influence and not using it for something fancy feels like a waste of a national idea.
