Are you going to tweak the store rare item availability? There’s a few things I don’t think I’ve ever seen in store (++ Damage AC/10s and Medium Lasers for instance).

Honestly I'm tempted to remove all the +gear and make vanilla gear the specials in the stores that only sometimes come available. This is the Periphery in 3025. There's 55000 mechs in existence and only 8% of those are in the entire periphery, parts should be something to scrounge for. Most worlds are 100,000 people huddled around a single spaceport, I'm thinking the only thing that should be in the default store is machine gun and maybe AC ammo. I want it to be a fairly agonizing decision whether to salvage a weapon or a mech part, which is why I want to eliminate the random salvage altogether.

I may be a masochist.

So, for those saying, basically, that I am playing "easy mode"; well it IS my very first time playing this game and am playing on the default settings.

Not intended as a criticism.
When the game first released the difficulty settings were not yet available , so most of us commenting have already played through it on base settings too.
Just sharing from experience how you can get an econ balance closer to what you seem to prefer.

Nothing wrong with playing the base settings campaign. I enjoyed it immensely. Options are there so that a spectrum of players can all find something better tailored for them, whatever that may be. Just keep in mind the settings do affect everything else.

IMHO, all these settings do is slightly delay the inevitable result of having enough hardware and cash to take on a Successor State.

We'll if you're going to go a' grinding, what do you expect. It's a game.

Are you playing on max settings including Iron man and CT destruction? A true circular game environment requires an inevitable mortality cycle imho.

Max settings is contrasted with base for more than a "slight delay" IMHO.

So rare that I have +250 just sitting around and backwater bandits have companies of assaults...

Yup.
What do you expect when the game has, at default, no way of actually forcing you to get rid of them once you have them?

Of course this is also what you get when discussing fluff on the one hand and actual game on the other. Talking without communication. :)

I did but all it accomplished was to increase the length of the grinding and thus lower the enjoyment for me. I still ended up with ridiculous amounts of hardware and cash, so I flipped it back and went with a Monty Haul campaign to see how much I could accumulate.

Whatever works for ya certainly.

But I thought it was merely a "slight delay"?
So shouldn't the settings without the "monty hall " loot collection grind be the better one for you though? If the goal is to drop in battles but with slower wealth progression, settings accomplish that. So more battles shouldn't be an issue if the criticism is amassed resources per same timeframe. It's the battles that we're here for regardless.
Even better with enabled failstates.

It is a common video game trope for every piddly vendor out there to be willing to pay around half dealer price for whatever trash the player doesn't want so they can supplement their wealth. That's why it doesn't surprise me when players who are used to those kind of expectations get upset when they realize they can only sell their hard earned loot for a measly 10% of their value.

But have you ever tried selling anything to actual commercial vendors? Good luck finding one that'll buy anything from you, and the ones that will rip you off something fierce. They are planning to resell it after all. Not only that, but most battlemechs are ancient, costly to maintain, and have a LOT of mileage on them. In fact, if you pay attention, you'll realize you aren't even selling the 'Mech. You are scrapping it and selling the parts, no doubt because you'll get more money out of it that way.

So yeah, I'm of the opinion that the economy works well for the setting. It gives you a reason to negotiate for liquid cash rather than going max salvage every run, because the former is what pays the bills.

The Rick Harrison school of bartering.

I know you jest, but if you are dumb enough to try to sell off something literally priceless to a pawn shop, they will believe you are probably dumb enough to sell it for 5 C-Bills.

Best I got is tree-fity and a firm handshake.

The inner accountant in me is chuckling and wondering how my galactic company could make a killing on tax breaks by selling super MACRS depreciated mechs.

Kind of odd though that selling a super death machine makes you less money than just pillaging and raiding. Kind of makes you wonder about the the Inner Sphere school system and job opportunities :p

It wouldn't have to be that way if they had made the operating costs higher. Running a company the size of the one you do in this game costs several million c-bills a cycle, possibly more since the Argo is *HUGE* compared to most dropships that a merc unit would operate.

The money has never made sense to me in this iteration of Battletech. Then again I'm basing most of my 'store' experience vs the original Mechwarrior of the 90s. Jenners cost 4mil, battlemastes 12mil (that's if you went to Solaris to get the cheapest prices tho) and the prices fluctuated based on how 'backwater' your planet was.

Massive increase to contract payouts, massive increase to cost of 'Mechs, with a corresponding increase in how much it costs to operate your dropship/company... I dunno, I like to think a better balance could be achieved that was more realistic, without getting lost in the weeds of the economics of your company etc.

For now? Meh, I love the game too much to gripe about that part of it. (that part) :D

The question for me isn't whether the prices match canon, but whether they work for the game. They are after all, a game mechanic built to create a certain level of difficulty and progression. How they relate to prices in other Battletech products isn't really relevant to me.

That was rather the point of my post @Jade_Rook

The feel that my 'Mechs and components had VALUE in the rest of the gameworld, instead of just to me.

This iteration... i click 'confirm' on the salvage at the end of the mission, look in the upper right hand corner 47 Million you say?

HA. Even if i sold EVERYTHING you just gave me worth "47 Million" i may, MAY get 2 out of it. Maybe.

That tells me one thing, it is all a lie. It's just icing on a cake that doesn't exist. Kind of immersion breaking really. Have 20 fully completed battle ready 'Mechs you want to offload?

Sure... i can do that for a pizza. Oh, 2 toppings only tho...
