How much Amenities is too much?

What I noticed is that the bonus from Amenities seems to be capped at +20% happiness. Sometimes I get it at something below 50 Amenities (if I remember correctly), sometimes it's not enough (but 100 Amenities appears to be a certain waste of the resources). My point is that I can't really grasp when I am having too many Amenities (and I usually have plentiful due to the domestic servitude).

Can someone check in the code what's the actual equation for the happiness bonus from Amenities?

You get maximum 20% bonus on twice the amount of amenities than your amenity consumption. Or, in other words, to get 20% bonus you have to have as much extra amenities as what your pops consume.

That's good to know. Makes sense too.
Try Agrarian Idyll, you'll be rolling in 3~4x more amenities than needed without even trying. Without spending a single building slot or job on them.

Arguably any amount over 0 is too much, since you can gain happiness from a number of other sources. Happiness increases overall stability and stability increases overall production. But you might increase production more by using less amenity producing buildings and focusing on other resources directly.

The calculations don't really come out in favor of more amenities over the cap. Since the amount needed per happiness scales with population it never adds up to being worth it over making more resources. Sources of amenities tend to be swingy though. If you make entertainers you are going to get 20 amenities even if you only need 2 or 3 to avoid penalties. So I think its best to think of amenities over what you need as a small bonus to somewhat offset that you are getting them in such large chunks.

You get maximum 20% bonus on twice the amount of amenities than your amenity consumption. Or, in other words, to get 20% bonus you have to have as much extra amenities as what your pops consume.

This isn't correct, unless it was changed, recently, and not documented (doubt it).

The max amenities boost tops out at ([base amenities useage per pop] * 1.2 * number of pops)

In other words, if you pop amenity useage is 1, then having (1.2 * number of pops) is all you need for max bonus. Any more than that, and it's pointless (beyond future proofing).

If you're a gestalt, then the formula is the same, but instead of contributing up to 20% in happiness, it's up to 20 stability.

Happiness isn't as useful of a metric in 2.2; it's more of a a stability feeder than anything else (though pops that are happy generate less crime; with 99-100% total happiness stamping out all crime on the planet).

I think there are 2 ways:
for a normal world you want close to 0. plus what yet ungrown pops will consume-produce.
for a trade world filled entirely with clerks and merchants - you don't care, cuz you probably will be unable to reduce them anyway
