O.K.

There are a lot of threads here where people provide their own ideas on how to model things and how "accurate" and "realistic" HoI 2 should be.

My questions are these:
How Moddable will it be?
How Moddable should it be?
What would players / modders like to be able to mod?

In HoI even I can mod leaders and leader traits :D
Being moddable would make a lot of arguments here (in the forum) irrelivant?

Also - will it be possible to transfer / mod HoI 1 files (like leader files for example) to make them compatable with HoI 2?

Yeah your going to be able to mod quite a bit, much like other Paradox games, but there are still going to be some hard coded stuff.

Hopefully they don't have stupid hard coded stuff that could be better modeled by AI only events.

(obviously you couldn't mod the provice boundries - because that would make different peoples versions incompatible)

If Province Names were in a text or excel file you could change them to your local preference?

I belive that the province names have been moddable in previous Paradox titles. Of course, you couldn't change the names that appeared on the actual map, so the alteration was only seen in popups, province info screens and such.

(Edit) The reason why, say, province boundaries can't be modded or changed after the release is not incomability problems, but the fact that even the smallest change would require a compleatly redone map. And the map is hundreads of megabytes in size.

Of course HoI2 should (and I'm sure it will) be just as moddable as all other Paradox games. Mods make us play EUII and HoI much more than we would if there were only vanilla versions available. Paradox knows that so... :)

That's what I'm asking.

Province names in pop-ups (like "We are attacked in XYZ") are moddable, the ones on the map are not.

I don't think this will be changed in HoI2.

Answering original question - except from traditionally "modder friendly" enviroment, I'm especially happy from one thing - since Victoria release there is a possibility to add pictures to the event pop-ups, so I'm 100% sure it will be possible in HoI2 as well!

Imagine the possibilities - every event with proper picture! Rheinland - picture. Munich - picture. Rib-Molotov Pact - picture... :D

Yeah I didn't even bother posting a thread asking for it because I just assumed that since it was in VIC it would be in HOI2 also...

It really doesn't matter either way, because by the second or third patch someone will make a user-made event creator that can decipher the most arcane of scripting languages into something even an idiot like me can use. :p

The more complex it gets, the more of a bitch it will be to mod for the users who can't be arsed to learn the system by heart.

Case in point: the CK event system. Yes, it's very interesting, but I have a feeling it's going to be a bother to code events without thoroughly going through it unlike in EU2 when coding events was relatively simple.

I do wonder however, how much harm does this open moding do? Well maybe not "harm" but it must put some kind of limitation on the programmers, right?

Would you rather be without CORE or AGC for example?
