I know the game just came out, but I'm curious if anyone is playing online and if so, how many other people do you see online?
I remember being very disappointed when I purchased HOI2 and there were only like 4 people online playing.
I'm hoping this will be much more popular, especially since it supports up to 32 multiplayers.
This is not a game for a pickup competition.
The way this game and other Paradox games generally work is a thread gets started. One player proposes a game within an outline:
"Hey. I'm a fairly unintense guy looking to enjoy a semi-realistic game. I prefer the Starfire 1938 scenario, and I want to play a game in which France is obligated to accept Vichy and Spain can't be allied by a player country until after the fall of France.
My availability is wednesdays after 6 EDT and Saturdays from 2 EDT to 10 EDT. Aiming for a group of 6 players. Please state your first three preferred countries and your availability."
Players then negotiate what they're going to play, how they're going to play it, when they're going to play, and for how long. Pausing policies, modding, and houserules. Generally takes a week from initial posting to the first game.
My experience with HoI2 and EU2 was that games generally took 6-12 weeks of five hour sessions once a week.
You don't show up at random times and expect to play. You can, but if you do get a pickup game going, it's going to be a nightmare to sort out future play sessions. You need to play with people with compatible schedules, and for a group larger than two players, it gets increasingly more unlikely.
