This was suggested a long time ago but I could not find the thread.

I mean, this is pretty absurd. So many patches and dlc's after release, with the latest one adding cultures for rulers etc, this HUGE problem still is not adressed.

I am sick of not being sure if I got an backup heir(another, younger child) or not when an event shows up related to the heir's death, or when I want to simply disinherit them and want the next child be the heir. We just need a tab where it shows us all our children with their stats.

Problematic situations caused by the extreme uncertainty of this matter -although a small thing,maybe thats why paradox always 'forgets' this- are fairly annoying, and can be adressed easily, I guess.

The only agents in EU4 are nations. The ruler, the heir, they are just modifiers attached to those nations. There is no fact of the matter as to how many children your ruler has or whether their heir is their child or nephew or someone they adopted or something else.

Introducing a full family tree for your ruling family would require introducing an entirely new kind of actor to the game. This is a level of added complexity that would make it a whole different game - ie it's something that we might see in a hypothetical EU5.

To answer some of your uncertainties: when you disinherit there will not be another heir waiting. When your existing heir dies the game decides then and there whether or not to immediately give you a new one. There was no fact of the matter prior to the existing heir dying.

This kills the PU game, which can be a huge mechanic. I'm 100% against a family tree type thing being added- unless they massively up the death rate of heirs and rulers which will just tick players off.

That really depends on the balance when it comes to heirs. Consider that CK2 characters can have plenty of kids (especially male Muslims, who get into trouble if they have too many kids), but it doesn't keep players from sidelining rival dynasties and manoeuvring their way into various succession wars a lot more quickly and reliably than they can in EU4.

Still I agree, spare heirs are not a big deal. It's an idea best left for a future game that has some sort of hybrid of CK and EU mechanics.

This is the problem.

I mean, im not saying "lets add whole family trees lel nephews half brothers uncles I WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHİNG OMG"

Just, a small tiny indication that there is a child(or whatevver it is, nephew or pet cat) that is waiting after the death(or disinheritence) of this current heir.

That would just make it even easier to get god-tier rulers. That's just straight MP generation buff to monarchies which is not at all needed. It would also make PUs a lot rarer.

We don't have to see the stats; only for the first one like it is at the moment. A simple line saying you have x heirs in the line of succession would be good to estimate if it's worth getting rid of the current heir.

Could be something for a DLC I think. Would make PUs and RMs much more interesting. This could also be integrated in diplomacy and relations.
