I heard on you tube the Byzantine Empire falls apart after a few 100 years and if thats the case what how long in your one of your games of CK II did it last i mean from the 1066 time frame, because in the 769 time frame it i think based on my Obesrve game does not fall by 1453...

i don't\mean if you are the Emperor i mean if your playing as a king of england or HRE something like that...

I want to know when the Decilne and fall started for the Byzantine Empire and when it fell even if it did not fall by 1453?

I don't believe that I ever have seen the ERE fall without massive amount of player intervention (though I have seen them be reduced to e.g. Croatia + random non-de jure counties in the past (particularly in the SoI era when the Fatimids and Seljuks generally invaded/jihaded the ERE to irrelevance fairly quickly)), as you literally have to conquer every single county from an empire to destroy it. I suspect that it would fall much more quickly if the emperor picked up a Catholic heresy (and his vassals converted/got revoked before he was unseated) as they'd get crusaded/holy warred from two sides then, but if they were very strong at the time of the conversion they could possibly withstand the onslaught for some time and then use holy wars to expand (though Threat will make it less good than it was in the past as a strong ERE is very likely to get enough Threat every war to constantly have to fight defensive pacts of varying sizes).

It used to happen a couple of years ago (when the muslim rulers and the mongols used to be OP) but I haven's seen it a lot since the Rajas of India DLC came out.

I used to see Nomads overrun it after TOG came out. Now they might lose Asia Minor and not be able to take it back because the Pope beats them to the punch.

In my games the Byzzies usually go elective and thrive. In my Ireland game they took Jerusalem from the Abbablob a little after the First Crusade for Andalusia.

Since Conclave, I have never seen them fall. As Starsword said, they usually go elective and remain quite strong, sometimes maybe lose a Jihad/invasion for Anatolia and steadily take it back as that Muslim power falls over.

However after Horselords but before Conclave, they would get taken out pretty much EVERY game. Usually by a nomad and often in a single war.

The Byzantine Empire can fall VERY VERY RARELY in the 769 start date. Usually it happens if/when the Bulgarians and that other Steppe-tribe that they share a dynasty with become allies (or one inherits the other) and calls an invasion of the Byzantine Empire. Even then the invasion will only succeed if Krum (or some other godlike military khan) is leading the invasion, and even then it has a decent chance of failing unless the Byzantines are engaged in a big war or civil war or something.

I've seen it happen two or three times back when I used to play the 769 start date, but I don't play it anymore because it's such a horrible mess.

Outside of the 769 date, the Byzantines are unlikely to ever fall. They used to, back before Rajas of India, when faction rebellions used to actually be dangerous, but now everything is so watered-down and easy that empires simply never break apart or fail. Once you get big you stay big.

And that's why I barely ever play CK2 anymore.

In my current game Byzantium was one of the two realms apart of mine that survived till XIV century. The thing is, the Ecumenical Patriarch took charge and change it to a theocracy. Now it is being ruled by a line of priests of aztec origin. And I keep murdering them one after another to avoid taking a truce breaker penalty.

I can't recall ever seeing it go under, though I've only played post-Horselords release (though not with HL DLC until this year).

My most recent 1453 finish (all DLC in play) they were still hanging on to a fair chunk of western Asia Minor and still had Greece and bits of Italy.

The Byzantines stay together yes, because they switch to elective, then add born in the purple on top of that. My experience in recent patches has been that blobs have been far less stable - the Abbasids in particular can never seem to keep their shit together in my games.

You might want to check out CK2+ mod then - aside from the huge array of improvements, the AI seems to go through a steady pattern of build up and collapse over the course of 2-3 generations.

It's mainly because the Byzantines control most of their de jure empire land and spent most of the game either expanding into the middle of nowhere (Steppes) or trying to take that land back.

No factions can grow powerful enough off an independence faction to split up the empire significantly.

Abbasids on the other hand, Post Conclave they pretty much implode every game I've played with them 100 years into the game. Even as a vassal Zorastrian busy gobbling them up from inside, their decadence revolts almost always happen in de jure Persian Empire, which is irritating.

Usually does not fall in my games, but the times I have seen it fall, it always fell between 1200-1300, leaving Southeastern Europe inexorably exposed to marauding hordes of Arabs, Turks, and Persians. Generally speaking though, while it takes a battering, usually doesn't fall. Sometimes thrives.

Not really sure how anyone can disagree with this. Empires don't fall and 769 was also when I saw the ERE take the most hits with nomads or the even blobbier than the Greeks Abbasids invading.

The worst I've seen the ERE perform was a long time ago. This was last summer when Horse Lords came out. The Tengri Hordes would often successfully invade the ERE and turn it into a pagan empire, or they would flip to Orthodox and now all of Greece is Khazar.

At the same time last year, I've seen the Muslim blobs dominate and even the ERE flipping to Sunni! On an extremely rare note, I had a Hindu ERE once. But that as all about a year ago. Since last summer, I haven't seen the AI ERE collapse by itself. The only way I can make it do poorly is if I get involved.

If you want the ERE to fail more often, play a mod like HIP. In my current Canosa campaign in HIP, the Seljuks took Asia Minor pretty quick after 1066 and created Rum, the Byzantine Empire at one point became Muslim and so was invaded in a series of Holy Wars by their christian neighbors (including myself, I took a duchy), and then ceased to exist shortly after a Christian retook the throne but lost Constantinople and Thrace to the Rumites. Right now the former ERE has been partitioned between Rum in the east, the Kingdom of Thessalonika, the Kingdom of Bulgaria, and several independent duchies and counties.

I've even made it my goal in this game to create the Latin Empire, something I hardly ever get the opportunity to do.
