What it says in the title.
I wonder how long do other people play one single game.
What I mean is the (real-world) time it takes for you to get to the end of your game.

Be it the ultimate world conquest or just playing till its too boring for you to matter (usually 43-44 ? )
or till the end of regular game time - 1948. :) Whatever. Tell me.

For me it takes sometime months for a single game to finish. One of my longest was spanning 9 months (in the beginning of my HOI career). :D

Depends on which country I play. With Germany or the Soviet Union, there's a lot more to do, and I typically end up spending 3-4 evenings a week, at 2-3 hours per shot, for a month or two. Figure 40-100 hours. A smaller country, with less units to manage, and less of everything else, goes a bit faster, maybe 30-60 hours. By the time I've defeated the main opponents, or the faction leader had succeeded brilliantly or failed miserably, the tedium sets in, and it's time to restart. I don't recall ever having played out a game to the "world conquest" stage, although I've reduced both rival factions down to one or two inconsequential members.

I started my current game in February so it's been ongoing for four months now.

But I'm writing it up as an AAR as I go, so after every month of game play I have to pause and write up the events. Sometimes it seems to drag, especially when not much of interest is happening, and sometimes I'll take a bit of a break and do something else. But I prefer playing the game this way as it helps me immerse myself in the subject and the period and brings the game alive.

I do like watching the 'Let's Plays' but personally I have no interest in playing the game at high speed and with minimal strategic thought.

Likewise, I'm not that interested in beating the game or achieving world dominion with some tiny country. I recognise the challenge and achievement of players who do that sort of thing, but for me its about recreating history and exploring plausible alternatives to it. Not beating the game engine, or AI,

I recon a lot of the "new crowd" AKA HOI 4 peoples are not into that kind of longetivity.:)
It seems to me they prefer a game for one evening.
Maybe thats why the demands on the game are so different from what I (we?) expect.

I can get to the war rather quickly - that's the upside of playing a bunch maybe 2 hours tops, but the war itself always takes a long time maybe 15 hours or so I'd guess. If I go for world conquest that's another 5-6 hours usually I'd estimate.

Fast-food versus fine dinner-out & going to a Play.

When another game, an old Adventure-game becomes known only for on-line battle-tournaments?...yeah. tastes have changed and not for the better. When games shifted more to eye-candy + random-luck...things went south fast. More like a quick stop in Vegas.

About 40 hours, but I'm only now starting with Majors.

Ironically, I'm trying to learn how to tell the AI to do stuff, so most of my games nowadays last only a few hours, playing at speed 5 with constant pausing.
I lose most of them

hundred to thousand hours for me ! lol
but i am only intrested by large scales management, its the perspective where i find most fun, i think.
AI stay limited so, "real challenging funs" are more in VH, with good managing and more large scales as possible...

last game i made was approx 1800hours on 10 real months (for 17 years of one alone campaign with GER inside the game)... :p
but ! i still have doubts about Steam coutndown of hours, its not sensed.

2 times i seen myself my steam countdown of HOI3TFH coming back from 3300hrs registred to 2800 in one day !
(and the 2nd time, something close too: some hundreds hours less just after on/off games, close steam and cameback in the next day, etc...)
so, i still have serious doubts i can count on it to evaluate really how much hours i used on TFH.

there are reasons:
1st, when i foccus on HOI3, i dont leave the game when i stop playing.
i ALT+TAB everytime (in stellaris, in football manager 2016 too, etc... i always did) and only close the screen of my laptop without shutdown fully.
Paradox games are in top more stable games u can find (and i use a powerfull 3D laptop with 4 cores since 3 years too, no troubles with, not any lagging if i do other stuffs with, etc)
so no trouble to let the game open (and just minimized on windows desktop for days/weeks sometimes). :)

bcoz of that, i expect sometimes the countdown is updated and regularized by steam and then becoming very very "approximative"...
(i dont know exactly how and wich sizes are concerned, i dont really care).

and there was also others cases like: doing a break in the living room with HOI on, felt asleep until morning
and then, 6to8 hours of "all night play" without really playing them, etc... (i did that quite a few times lol)

all of that together, i dont think my 1800hours are real, that should means 4to5hours EVERYDAYS in last 10 months in front of TFH, and its exagerate, i didnt played such.
may 2-3h/day in the week and 6to8 in week ends as average, depend of periods too, etc.

but still a lot ! thats clear ! lol :D
(i guess i reach top 10 of HOI3 players about countdown of steam hours, i am not sure ?)

then, "by steam values", last (and more bigger game i ever did on HOIs, even with previous ones on HoI2Doomsday with Japan or Germany again with HoI2Armageddon... hundreds hours there too between 2006 and 2011 !) with Germany1936 until july 1953 must be something like 1000to1200 hours in 10.5months for real on TFH with Germany, i guess...
something like that. :)
