I have 451 hours in HOI3. I started playing only minors because it took too long for me to finish a game a major. I also enjoy the micromanagement aspects so I played at lower speeds and paused a lot. Is HOI4 a faster, shorter game to play as a major power - Japan, Germany, Russia, US?

I mean, a game completion time estimate isn't really easy to give. What are your goals? Whats your country of choice?

Probably Japan first, then maybe Germany next. Really just interested in how much time how HOI4 takes in comparison to HOI3 for the same country. I don't own HOI4 yet so I don't know about the goals, so I am just looking for a relative comparison. Does it take the same amount of time, or more or less?

Well you can just defeat China as Japan. Maybe you want to defeat America in the pacific so you take all their islands and sink their ships? Do you want to capitulate America? World conquest? Its hard to say what the average time is and at what speed unless you tell me what you wanna do. lol

Not world conquest but victory for the Axis, or victory with whatever faction I belong to. As Japan in HOI3, as part of the Axis I invaded the US and Russia and conquered all of Asia. That took well over a hundred hours but I am a micromanager, play at low speed and pause a lot. Would it be the same amount of time in HOI4?

if you're counting victory against the allies and Russia? I would say maybe a four hour game at max speed? If you're running at low speeds then many many many many hours.

It depends on how much micro-management you want to do, because at high or max speed nothing takes particularly long no matter what your 'goals' are. You'd get through a full game in less than a day at high speeds. It's good to have these skills if you want to play multi-player.

My games can take a week full time or more ... I pay attention to training generals in specific traits, maximising experience of units by sending volunteers, developing my army and templates before war to maximise pre-war experience... I play mostly historical runs... I pause to plan, mapping out production, the timing of focuses and spy missions etc for maximum effect, I control battles carefully rather than using too many battle lines (which lead to pure attrition warfare).

I played a lot of HoI2 but almost no HoI3... for me the time it takes for a HoI2 game vs HoI4 is roughly same.

This is more the style I play. Finishing the game in a week would actually be quick for me. 2 or 3 weeks would be perfectly acceptable. Thanks for the feedback.

Finishing a single game is extremely easy and it can take less than 5 min.But WINNING a game is extremely difficult and can take more than a week for freshmen like me

I think that HOI4 is faster than HOI3 as you can trust the AI to manage a front (with help in key areas) and supply is not as severe. HOI4 has lost some of the "flavor" of HOI3 (ie Order of Battle) but HOI4 can move at a faster pace. I'm sad for some of the things we lost from HOI3 but I haven't been tempted to go back. Having said that, some mods (Black ICE and Total War) seem to recapture some of the HOI3 feel. HOI4 is probably worth it, if only for the great range of up to date mods.
