Hi all. Just want to say I'm loving this game so far - I know war wasn't the focal point of Sengoku, but other than the lack of a more in-depth war mechanic, this game is blowing me away.

A few questions:

1) How long does an average game take in hours? I realize it'll be long, but just curious.

2) Why does EU3 have achievements, and Sengoku does not? I own EU3, but have not gotten into it yet.

3) Are there shortcut keys for increasing and decreasing the time? I've tried a few standard combos, but nothing seems to be working.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply, unperson ... I use the Spacebar frequently, but the +/- keys, don't work. Also, Ctrl in combination with +/- don't work either.

It's extremely hard to pinpoint an average time for how long a game lasts. There are a whole lot of factors to bring in. These include starting position, starting clan leader, heirs, how you do marriages, how you upgrade your provinces, what choices you make when you goto war, who you goto war with... The list goes on and on and on. My shortest game was as a 2 province clan(Ando) and I was wiped out sometime within 3 or so hours after I started. My longest game, I started as a clan with 4 provinces(Satomi) I believe and thanks to where I was positioned, I eventually became Shogun after, a couple days worth of playing I guess? Now, the reason why that game took so long was because of how much I changed the speed and paused it while I made decisions. Decisions ranging from marriages, to who my next target could be, even to whom my heir will be. I like to be thorough with who I marry my kids to, so I like to go through the list and actually look at a person's lineage. And because of how many big clans there were in my area, I had to be careful with who I went after. With my heirs, the Diplomacy attribute was very important for me, so if my eldest son had a lower Diplomacy than, say, my third eldest, then my third eldest son would get the honor of leading my clan. So basically, there are just so many factors that can play into how long your game can be, that it's kinda hard to give an accurate estimation that works for a broad amount of people. Now, if I wasn't so thorough or cautious, my game could have been done in less than 24 total hours easily. Problem with that is there's no guarantee that I would have won in the end. :)

For the tl;dr people: Average game-time can be anywhere from a couple hours to a day or so in total hours depending on how you go about things in the game. Hope this helped. :)

My games have ranged from a 40 minute game as Kasai ending in being eaten by Osaki to a 20ish hour game as Nanbu where I eventually won. The game feels shorter than Hoi or EU, but there is still plenty of time to have plenty of fun.

In my first game as Shoni I was wiped out pretty soon by my neighbours in a couple of hours, due to the learning process. My second (and still ongoing) game as Nanbu is the complete opposite. I'm over 26 hours into this and down for a final clash against the Isshiki. So yeah, it's really difficult to find an average.

Wow, thanks for the input all. That gives me a good base of how long I can expect to play for. This is my first real foray into a Paradox Grand Strategy game. I own EUIII and HOI3, but have never played more than a few turns due to not having the time combined with the inclination to spend what little time I have learning them. I had more of an inclination to learn Sengoku, because of fond memories playing Nobunaga's Ambition for the Sega Genesis and also from reading that Sengoku isn't as 'involved' as games like HOI and EU. Thanks for your help all, I'll continue to plug through. I'm hoping learning Sengoku will enable me to more easily get into HOI and EU.

It will depend on the speed u have the game running at as well. It took me about 3 days as Nanbu on a medium speed to win shogun and take 100% of japan in the process. But i was playing it none stop for 3 days without a break when i 1st got the game lol. U must remember to make sure u un-pause the game though as some events pause the game. To speed up or slow down the game u can either use + - on the number pad or click on the + - by the date at the top of the screen. U can make the game harder by playing in 3d vision using passive glasses with the blue red lenses. They change the colours making it hard to see ur units vassels units and enemy units lol. They all show up grey. Red shows as purple on the map. My tv's active glasses wont work with 3d vision lol.

Also, plu and minus should work on the main part of the keyboard (not only the numberpad ones). But you need to use "Shift and =" for plus speed and just hit the "-" key normally with no shift. Its basically key-mapped to exactly the 'plus' and 'minus' symbols rather than just the buttons themselves.

Right. I'm used to using Ctrl and +/- keys in several games. Not sure if '=' is mapped to anything but it doesnt seem right to have to hit shift + = to increase time speed when it's only one key to decrease it. Thanks for for your input though. I dont know how that one slipped by me :S lol

How many game years does it usually take you to become Shogun? On normal difficulty it took me until 1540 with Ashikaga and almost 1590 with Chosokabe from the early start position.

In my first game as Shimazu I became Shogun at early 1560's if I remember correctly. Right now I'm playing as Osaki at 1512, and it looks like it's going to take somewhat longer.

Keep murdering Uesugi rulers and damaging their honor. There's plenty of vassals ready to rebel as soon as there's a weak heir and honor under 25. Speeds things up considerably in that corner.
