How linked is manpower to population and tax?

I have noticed that after war my income often goes down.

I dont know why but I suspect its because of the dead 40,000 soilders that I lost last war who now cant pay their taxes.

Is this right? Or is manpower abstracted?

Manpower in an abstract. Your income going down is due to the fact that your regiments grow back to full strength (upkeep is tied to the amount of men in the army, not the amount of regiments) and you not relying on looting for a part anymore.

It's also worth noticing that if your war exhaustion is high, your revolt risk increases which in turn decreases tax income.

Also if you either control or blockade enemies provinces/ports, you will get part of their income every month. When you peace out, you loose control of those provinces/don't blockade them anymore and so your monthly income will drop.

when war ends, so does your entitlement to war taxes.
