How is your first CS game going...?

Update: The new way raiding works, and the horde bonus, makes it very fun to go to war with a prosperous country like Korea. War is now a profitable enterprise rather than a resource drain! (at least for nomads)

I'm also choosing the tolerance buffs over missionary strength: Not enacting 'Enforce our traditions', embracing Neo-Confucianism, etc. It feels great to do something morally refreshing in a paradox game. When I see (Tolerance: -1 Unrest) on heretic provinces I can't help but think 'aww, isn't that lovely of me?' I even forget that in order to get those provinces I'd slaughtered armies and drained the province dry of its gold. Details, details. As long as I don't come across nasty westerners or Muslims my tolerance levels and the easiness of converting Tengri or Shamanism should see me through without having to go all 'Nobody expects the Jurchen Inquisition!'

Too early to post any meaningful pics. Started as Portugal, built up during regency to declare war for Tangiers, typical start. My ally Castile declared war on Aragon the month I was planning to attack, so I attacked Morocco anyway, it was more like a crossed mouse click from a timing standpoint. I cracked Tangiers, and saw Garnatah was untouched.

Aragon and it's ally Milan crushed Castile's army, so I quickly subdued Grenada and annexed it fully before taking Tangiers from Morocco. The very next month Castille broke our alliance!

So I allied Aragon, they called me in to fight Castile, and I sieged down Andalucia region and, finally, Madrid. At the point of the save I have JUST enough war score to take every province adjoining the fort I inherited from Grenada. I have to remember to do it before they peace out with Aragon, so I'll have to send it before pausing the game. Rebels are going to hit Tangiers and Ceuta so I need to get my army back to Africa.

My first game is going better than any previous game ever. There was a funny bit when I was checking Malacca's opinion after I had broken truce to take all their provinces except Bintan and then vassalize them after having cut their territory in half the year before. I hope this screen posts ok

1. Created a custom nation Makedonia and conquered turkey, persia, india etc.
2. Played "tall" Prussia into diplomatic germany unification with the new HRE mechanics.

And I also spended way to much time since CS is releaes with playing it. Not a single crash so far. ( No sarcasm )

White Elephant achievement on CS - completed! Coring cost and diploannex cost too expensive IMO, and westernization is now slower. At my 'usual' size and a 'usual' game year, westernization went for +8 MPs per turn in 1.11, now only +5 MPs and it's super slow!! These two things contributed to the fact that the finishing teches were 31/30/32. Had I not taken admin idea as the first group, it could have been much worse.

The karma system also sorta limits expansion a bit - I didn't want to expand to quickly or suffer from -10% discipline from bad karma, which was a result from taking provinces for your own.

The positive side though - moving first idea to ADM 5 makes European nations colonize the New World way slower than before, so I had a chance to build 3 colonial nations in Central / South America - Ayutthayan Colombia (which was gobbled by Portuguese Colombia afterwards), Ayutthayan Brazil, and Ayutthayan La Plata. (sorry, didn't save the screenie).

Also got to try the new parliament system with an empire about the size in the below image - even with full religious, stab cost eventually gets expensive, so the end game government system is now enlightened despotism - probably the first time ever in EU4 I've switched to this govt type - kinda similar to current govt type in 2015 Thailand except the current Thai junta isn't so enlightened.

And wait... what's up with Russia? What are they doing in SE Asia?? And there's one city in Borneo that's a religious center so with theravada it's almost impossible to convert even with full religious and some decisions adopted. However, there was one religious idea group event that fired and converted that city to theravada, so all my provinces become buddhist now! xD

Going Well. I play as BBB in ironman mode to get a feel about the new mechanism of CS.
Some take away from this play through
1. Light ship trade power nerf makes province trade power matters more. Land in the trade regions matters more now.
2. I still have enough MP to spare for development between coring and annexing. However, everything is more demanding for MP now.
3. Manpower is scarce for everybody!!!! no one exceeds 100K manpower in 1779 except me...... never happened pre-patch.

This is the first CS game, and I made lots of mistakes here (and a bit too lazy to expand) - just want to play this game for the sake of learning new CS mechanics and for the achievement. I could have pushed further into China, but don't want to pay the coring/annexation cost (kinda discouraged by the high cost in this patch) so I stopped there even though I have a strongest military in game. I also usually have a bad habit fearing I couldn't win battles with Europeans due to inferior Asian units so I didn't take Russian lands in Philippines despite I may easily win. Well, maybe next play will get better. Can't wait to try new SE Asian nations with new national ideas like Lan Na or Pagarruyung for buddhist Malaya.

Also, while westernizing, I didn't hoard MPs knowing that it's just +5, so I started the process at a relatively low MP pool, and there were times when I ran out of MPs and had to pause westernization at some point. I think this may be the part that made me focus internally on my empire.

My first game was a Denmark. And it isn't going well, as apparently the Swedish developers has put in a block so people who hasn't bought CS can't annex Sweden.

Playing as Morrocco, have fought extended wars against Spain + France (allied entire game) about 5 times so far lasting until able to white peace (length of war getting +25 or so) with 85% mercs. Colonization is going well tho as Portugal got brought down to Algarve and the Azores in the late 1400s. The interesting thing tho is Russia took a bunch of Norway and went exploration 2nd and expansion 4th and now they are colonizing the new world. Super Russia also owns about 2/3s of Lithuania and there is no S-Iberia this game. Lastly France left England 2 provinces on the mainland for about 150 years before Guyenne got released while France had a Regency and Spain annexed it.

(Side note Ottoderps still too far away to ally :/ but just allied GB so maybe Spain will stop attacking me?)

My first try was Hansa and I managed to build quite a state, annexed Danmark, Pomerania and Brunschwick and took whole polish sea line up to Memel. Then, about 1550 Hesse attacked me, got smashed and vassalized > more than -30 AE > coalition > humiliation war > stack of 120 > ragequit. Ironman ofc.

After that a friend of mine told me that I should try to ironplay anatolian minor. So here is the outcome in late XVIIth century:

For the first 100 years my state was very static, I only conquered 3 provinces from my neightbours (Adana and Karaman) and secured the long-lasting alliance with Mameluks (which exist till today.). Following that period, the war between Ottomans and Trbizond (Qura's vassal) occured and after Qura's armies were almost dead I declared war and took 8 provinces, 3 of them were released immediately as my march Iraq which I fed to the maximum size in the next war. After that there was one more war with Qura (vassalized > annexed), Persia (took some provinces and made 2nd march of Khorasan, then revoked march status from Iraq and annexed it). I fed Khorasan by warring Persia, Afgans and Timurids, now annexing it. Also Persia is my vassal and Oman was bordering Iraq the day before I DOW them. In the meantime I vassalized and diploannexed Georgia. Now its time to diplovassalize Timurids and feed them on Afghans.

There was one war with Ottomans few years back. I was sleepy and DOW on them, lost Karaman and whole manpower.

However, I have some problems - can't manage to stay up with with DIP tech (18,15,20 - Ottomans have 18,19,21), mostly due to annexations and developing the Influence ideas. Turks have been westernising for a couple of years now and I'm starting to fear them. Also my income is low (+7.00 when fully maintaining armies and fleets).

Ideas: 1. Quantity 2. Trade (should have chosen Influence, I know) 3. Religious 4. Influence (not full) 5. still none.

Armies: 90, Fleets: 30

And some parts of the World looks quite interesting

Muscovy and France were smashed, SA colonies are independent, Spain rules the North (just realized how I can cheat the fog in Ironman )

And the most problem is that I can't move my capital to Bagdat because it says that Bagdat is overseas... :C

My first game in CS, an Ironman England -> GB game, was really fun and interesting riiiiiiiight up to the point that the save file de-Ironmanned itself.

That aside, I'm liking CS a lot, much as I feel the frustration of people who don't have the DLC and for whom the New World is consequently functionally useless.

Final few years of my first CS game, decided to go Ironman Ming. Got four achievements during this game; Full House, City of Cities, Colonial Management and Kow-Tow. I tried to play semi-realistically, didn't really expand outside of historical Chinese borders (aside from American colonies). Decided, after having a high enough diplo tech, to let the periphery govern itself, hence Xinjiang, Manzhou and Xizang client states. Westernized off Portugal somewhere in the 1500s thanks to colonies in Mexico

And finally, something I had never seen up to this point, not sure if it was in before or added in the latest patch/expansion... An independent Australia tag.
