Just a quick question regarding war contribution. Basically, how is it calculated? Recently, in my game, a crusade was launched on Jerusalem. Many large nations joined the fight, including England, France and others. Yet the war contribution showed Meath (Irish Dukedom) being the highest scorer and when the crusade was won, all of the territory went to Meath. I thought this was based on troop contribution, but England was clearly fielding more troops than the two-county Duchy of Meath. So, how does that work?

Sorry, I'm sure this must have been asked before, but it doesn't hurt to ask again.

Being the leader of a siege (and then winning that siege) does wonders. I once took 200 men to the Holy Land and started sieging (well, really just standing there) a holding. I was then joined by the pope's 7000 soldiers, but when we won the siege, that ticked towards my contribution, not his. 10% warscore with 200 men isn't bad.

I have no idea about battles, but they seem to matter less anyway.

That's the reason. I used to do this, wait for my ally to arrive with only a few hundred men (not enough to siege a castle). The ally brings 8k men (and he's just passing through the region) and then I press the start assault button. Boom, I get the region. Tried this in older pre 1.06 versions, don't know if it still works - i doubt they changed this though. First come, first served. Of course, if the AI stops in the region, then he starts sieging the second location.

Use it to your advantage.

Possibly Meath was in more battles than others. Losing battles gives contribution too, so you can sacrifice some troops for contribution points. Quite silly, really.

This. I found that winning sieges + losing battles does wonders for your war contribution. I actively send a couple thousand men to random battles whenever a crusade is near its end (and the Christians are winning): I usually become the lead contributor easily, even though I did little to help the crusade. Gamey, I know.

This proves the system is flawed at the moment. A lot of what should be considerated for WarCon should be how much you helped the Crusaders WS go up; also, winning a siege should give you WarCon proportionate to the amount of troops you had in the siege: your 1000 men should get 10% if there are another 9000 troops helping you; the other 90% should go towards the owners of those troops.

This is how I see it.

So, it's basically how many lives you've sacrificed in the name of God and your reward at the end is essentially compensation for the lives lost and the hassle of crusading. Seems a bit odd, but hey.

Yep, besides occupying the enemy's territory, and holding it for as long as you can, getting their capital also gives a bonus and then battles and sieges.

Most of these can be rearranged according to the player's preference is he's willing to look and edit the defines.lua file inside the "common" folder (remember - if you're doing this, make sure to have a back up copy of the original file!)

Pretty much the opposite of this (comment: after 1.08 in particular, the popes contribution is very significantly downrated just for being the pope). Battles (winning or losing) matter a lot more than sieges (I've nearly been caught after seiging down 3 provinces, and having contribution far lower than other people who were actually fighting). That said, battles matter very little to whether the crusade is won or lost - thats when the sieges come in.
