I joined the materialist FE i the War in Heaven event. Later, I invaded all the planets of the spiritualist FE, destroying their empire. I got an event saying something like "One of the FE's destroyed, but not by their rival!".

But the war is still going. Am I really supposed to go around invading the all the 100-something planets of the spiritualists' former dominons AND the the non-aligneds? I wont get any help from my allies, as they are busy with "no orders".

Due to the nature of the wargoal, there is no gain in attrition, and there is no score to be had from occupation, as you immediatly annex any occupied system.

Is this working as intended, or a bug?

You still have to invade the AE’s former dominions. It should probably be tweaked so that after one empire is destroyed its former subjects can choose to surrender, and get humiliated and have to pay reparations or they can keep fighting or submit to one of the other faction (league or another AE)

That has to be an oversight. I can't believe anyone would consider carpet sieging 100 planets "fun gameplay".

Oh well, I'll just throw the save in the pile of campaigns ruined by bugs, oversights and incomplete features...

couple of versions ago it ended with you getting all the FE/AE empires vassals as your own vassals. but thats not the case anymore which sucks. just one more thing broken in this versions that they still haven't fixed or even thought about before going live with it

You can also Crack / Pacify / Convert worlds using a Colossus. That was enough for me to being able to declare Status Quo after destroying both fallen empires. Yet, the fluff text is a little bit anticlimatic, as it says that "The War ends with no clear winners".

Oh... I just realice that, if you are against the non-aligned, then you are with a FE... that means you have no control over Status Quo... Yeah, that's pretty awfull. It's crazy that there is no way to convinve your ally who has control over the war, to declare Status Quo.

That's terrible. My only time ending War in Heaven was when ALL the empries joined my League, so it was whole galaxy vs two of the AEs. Great time :)

This has to be an oversight, I had the same issue as you in my old game. I joined one FE and destroyed the other one, I was super stoked when I invaded their last refuge, figuring this would end the war in heaven but no, TWO wars remained, the war of FE+ALLY vs Unaligned worlds and FE+ALLY vs DEAD FE+ALLY, comprising nearly 70% of the galaxy. I threw my hat in the ring and gave up, i'm not annexing 70% of the galaxy.

Speaking of which, I really hate how I automatically annex things when I knock outposts over during The War in Heaven, the empire sprawl is absolutely mental and having to manage 30+ awful, awful AI planets is basically making me want to quit. Forget that, it did make me quit because every tick another planet needed attention. There is no way anyone can play this game properly at this stage, imagine if I'd decided to try to "win" the War in Heaven for realsies while still taking care of all the hundred???? of planets under my control.
