I'm pretty excited, but I expect it to be very buggy. I may not buy it right away and wait for a patch rather than be frustrated with the initial bugginess.

I'm not excited. No really, not a bit. I'm totally not installing and binge playing other games in a futile attempt to distract myself from the tantalizingly close yet immeasurably unobtainable fix of 4x goodness that is just around the corner.

You can keep playing with the current version though. If you really want to keep playing your save, when the game updates tomorrow, simply go to steam library -> right click stellaris -> properties -> betas -> select in the dropdown "1.4.2 kenedy version". Wait for it to restructure/redownload a few files. Your stellaris is now back to the current patch and you can play your current savegame as long as you want
Once you're done you can let the game update by going tho that menu again and selecting "none".
Indeed, but as someone who plays exclusively with AlphaMod for the past god knows how many months, this is going to be weird playing vanilla until it's updated.

Especially because I was planning on starting a new game months ago and then heard about this and the major patch, so decided to wait. I don't mind frankly, because I love that Paradox constantly 'tweaks' their games, changing up mechanics and other stuff for free, and it also keeps the game fresh, forcing me to relearn things and rethink old strategies. It's one of the reasons I've been playing CK2 for 5 years (2500+ hours and counting), and will likely play Stellaris over the next several years the same amount.

The number of bug fixes was pretty long but there are always more. I hope the swarm and unbidden are fixed as the end game crisis could be really underwhelming.
