How exactly does religious prestige work?

Erm, I should have been more precise. The "absolute" religion power can not go down by *itself*, so after you "wipe out" a religion, it does not lose the absolute power anymore. Which is why you see religions on the charts even after they have no provinces.

So is religious power a set level (number of provinces+temples/spices thrown into that equation) or an accumulated deal (provinces+temples etc. per year or month)?.

No. Or sort of. Ie, the relative power is calculated at the start of each month (if I remember correctly). So the power doesn't accumulate, and isn't a set level either because it depends on what the others have. The "absolute" power as such does not even exist saved, if you look at the save-game files only the relative power is recorded.

However it is set number (sort of) because if no change happens for any religion between two calculations, then nobody gathers more either. And it is sort of accumulating, because the "absolute" power you get by calculating from the relative power does not diminish as such.

I'm beginning to think this can be used for something after all. Not tested it yet, but I think it would be quite nice to have religious inventions triggered by religious prestige.
