How does "transfers from traders downstream" work?

Playing as Oman currently. Mamluks seems to get 55.9 extra trade power from "transfers from traders downstream" in the Gulf of Aden, even though they only own 2 provinces in the trade region. I noticed that Hedjaz also gets this bonus (extra 25.3 power) and they only own one province in the trade region. I assumed that this bonus applies to any nodes that feeds into another node that you have trade power in, but evidently not since I'm not getting this bonus from the Indus trade node.

So can anyone offer any insights into how exactly this modifier work?

I thought it transfers in any node (downstream) you do not collect gold. As Ottoman, I had the bonus in Alexandria, and Crimea. I don't think it worked in Persia (inland). I think it also takes into account power from light ships... I'm not sure if you mean that Mamlukes have 2 provinces in Gulf of Aden, or 2 in Alexandria. As I understand it, the power transfers even if you have no power in other nodes downstream. This means, if you want to max local value of a trade center, is to pick one with many downtream nodes to stear most of them by haing hudge trade power in the node upstream. The trade center of the Ottomans is quite good in this reguard, for ex.

I thought it worked that way too but I was wondering why I don't get a similar bonus from Indus or Ceylon which feeds downstream into the Gulf of Aden.

However, having just checked again now, the bonus is now there but it was certainly not there when I checked a decade ago. Do you know if there is some sort of pre-requisite to obtain this bonus? One thing that was different from a while ago, was that there are now more nations trying to steer trade away from the Gulf towards Zanzibar (I'm guessing they reached the necessary trade range).

Also, I tried collecting trade from Indus and the "transfer from traders downstream" bonus still remained. Very strange.

On a separate note, can you get downstream trade bonus from another node where you got downstream? EDIT: Holy crap it does. Looks like I've been underestimating trade ideas.

It works by giving Japan a bunch of Trade Power in Panama which is then used to steer trade towards the Carribean (i.e. away from Japan).

Playing as Khiva right now, and the Ottomans absolutely do send a mess of trade power to Persia. And in a previous game as Songhai, I was getting completed dominated by Algiers in Timbuktwo even though I owned every single province in the node. I had to spam trade buildings (as in all the trade buildings, even the specialty) just to even the power in the node. Which I only did because I was otherwise silly rich.
