So, I'm playing Venice in the demo, and doing okay when Austria finally decides that it wants some of my provinces.

I'm like, OK, I'll trade space for time.

So, I try to surrender by conceding defeat and even try to cede the target province to them, but they refuse (no matter what the war score is).

How do you surrender to the AI?

Soooo frustrating.

currently, even if you're at -90 warscore, they don't seem to accept whatever peace offer you give.
it seems the only way out right now is to accept whatever peace offer they give you (unless you're the one winning of course )

Yeah, AI has a lot of problems admitting that it's winning. Been two days since I rolled the Demo last time but I recall that AI refused my surrender because THEIR provinces weren't hammered enough. Could be wrong though.

Especially if you are a secondary participant in a war, AI should be more inclined to accept peace.

The main issue here is probably war enthusiasm. If the AI thinks it can nab even more provinces than just your initial one, then it will keep fighting the war. Now, it's a little silly, sometimes, because they won't take any deal, even if it's amazing, but that's the general idea.

that's a sound theory and definitively something i'll be watching out for in the future - the war enthusiasm

Isn't this how the player plays? If he sees that he can easily win the war, he will press for more than he wanted in the first place. Now that the AI plays similar to the player (ie. opportunistically), suddenly it's a problem...
