The title already says it.
I often got the problem of uprisings and revolts in newly conquered vassals.

What can I as overlord do to prevent that, or at least reduce the chance for it?

I'm generally okay with independence wars, but when I *just* fought a longer war in the same area for subjugation, it's purely a nuisance.

Revolts from instability on their planets? Not much, really. You could hit them with idelogy wars beforehand to force them to be egal-ophiles so they stop slaving and causing instability, but that's about the only thing I can think of. Might also be some overlord holdings that can help here and there, like the emporium and aid agency.

Assuming we're talking about planetary revolts, here's the wiki link to see the contributing factors:

The things you should be able to influence:
If their planets are below 25 stability, you can put armies on their planet up to a strength of 1200.
If their planets are below 25 stability or close to falling below 25 stability and they lack amenities, you can build an aid agency for more amenities, if you are a megacorp you can also build an amusement megaplex and other things that give them merchants or clerks.
As a vassal the AI will get the difficulty bonuses of one level below the difficulty setting, so by increasing your difficulty to commodore or above the Ai will get a stability bonus.
In general, if you tax your vassal too much, they might run into shortages that impact their pops' happiness and thus their stability.

I just wish they would fix that for some reason the Overlord often gets some or all the systems when putting down the rebellion, even without any claims on them.

Wait, offensive armies stop revolts from occurring? That makes thematic sense, but I assumed they didn't for balance reasons since they use neither pops nor buildings slots.

I never had a revolt situation since it was introduced, but according to the wiki the situation progress is reduced by .25 per 50 garrison army strength above 200 per month up to a maximum of 5 and I presume garrison army strength is used the same way as in the army screen as the sum of defense armies and assault armies on the planet.

I don't think micromanaging pops is gonna help OP in the problem with vassals.

What difficulty are you playing on? I had the same problem on ensign, but when I played on higher difficulties it didn't happen.

Yeah, AI gets stability bonuses from difficulty, and ai vassals to a human player receive difficulty modifiers one tier below the difficulty setting, giving them the admiral bonus of +15 stability at grand admiral difficulty.
