OK so I understand that overseas colonies are min 75% and local colonies are min 50%, but how does it work from a conquered territory standpoint?

Say I am European and I conquer some of China that will be overseas I think, at least when I play Portugal etc I can turn those counties into trade companies. If I'm Italian & conquer egypt that should also be overseas unless I connect it to my capital by land.

However currently I'm playing a Malaysian game & all territory in China is local (0 autonomy floor) regardless of whether it is connected to my capital. I actually thought it would be overseas but it seems not.

So what are the zones? What is overseas if I'm Malaysian? Will India be overseas? Is it related to the base tech group you're apart of? So for instance Indian tech group countries would be overseas but Eastern are not. Would Japan count as overseas for me?

Cheers

If it's on the same continent it's never overseas. If it's connected by alnd to Your capital - same. Also, if it's within certain (don't know how big) distance from Your capital.
Malaya is in Asia, so Japan, China, India, not even Arabia would count as overseas.

Wow OK so it's done on a continent level? That's crazy I can make a really really big empire in that case since I could create client states anywhere in Asia.

Yup. Wiz said that he's not entirely pleased with current system, but that's what we have now. Simply there is no better Idea. And yeah, Asian nations are really strong thanks to this. This production goods...
