There aren't antipopes, so that is off the table, but I want the pope to still hold the papacy title when I unify.
How do you vassalize the pope as a pre-schism catholic?

Unifying pre-schism would eliminate the need for a pope.
Also, The Papacy as an institution was to elevate the Pope above the other patriarchs in the struggle for the dominance of Christiandom and would be an affront to the office of "Supreme Patriarch".
Gameplay wise, The Patriarch of Rome receives a duchy title that styles them "Pope" if that helps.
