Hello Survivors!

I've been playing Surviving the Aftermath for quite since about when it was available in early access on Xbox and I absolutely love it so far! the game is a great balance between building your colony/base and managing character survival/exploration; and of course I'm a fan of the post-apocalypse setting so it hits all the marks.

After playing the game for some time I thought it would be interesting to see how other people have been playing it. I can include my own opinion later, but im more curious how everyone else has been playing;

Here are some questions for everyone:

Which Research do you choose to focus on first?

What Resources do you prioritize scavenging in the world?

How do you manage Food based on your difficulty?

How do you manage World Exploration with your various Survivors?

That's all I can think of but I'm sure more will come with future updates; also feel free to post your own questions in response!

Thanks for reading and Be Prepared!

for reasearch you have to balance between a few things, but for myself its a balance between food to advaned farming, colony down to comforable housing, security to hazmat engineering, explration to motorized exploration for the garage for cars. the rest i b-line to inustrial mining cuz you really need this later on as your deposits run dry

generally metal is scarce or just you need os much, any components is critical for all your late game buildings,

I havent played on too high difficulties, but i generally try to spam large farms and cookhouses to stock up on food. yu're vulnerable to the radiation storm though which is hard

world exploration is mostly just trying to find comonents and research as kind of critical. with cars outpost seem kind of moot imho

First thing I do when starting a new game is get four fields set up and plant two each of Corn and Potato and just rotate the same two colonists between them. Do this and you are pretty much set for the rest of the game, as you will never be behind in food production for the most part as you can add more fields going forward as you start accepting more survivors, granted you are not accepting every single large group into the colony and even then you may be alright to do so.

As far as initial Research Points spending is concerned, I try to focus on getting a School built asap. That extra 15% can really make a difference especially if you get a kid who already has a Production bonus of some sort.

The main thing I can think of off hand for me is I don't rush the game as far as trying to grow my colony too large, too soon.

I go Colony to Education first because that 15% on key workers is a must, then I get advanced fields. In the mean time I plant my fields in groups of 4 so after that first radiation storm I can replace them with large fields for the worker efficiency advantage. One of the first buildings I go for is the sawmill because building over trees dead or alive is a waste of resources and stockpiles are free. it also means that your walkers can focus on gathering concrete.
My initial build order is: well, 4number small farms recycler, sawmill, 2number emergency shelters, scrapper, medical tent, front gate.

You only do 1 well at the beginning? I mirror your production, but do 2 wells at the outset, then add a third after the shelters and a fourth before the gate.

Metal is a bit of a tight resource so really don't make any wells unless you really need to. Once you have a more established economy then you can spam them out so you have 2x water coverage
