I'm looking to create a necrophage megacorp based off of DnD demons, with souls being the primary commodity. However, was shown how necrophages are best paired with lithoids mechanically. I'm struggling to imagine how that would look. Does anyone have any good RP regarding what an empire of rock zombies would look or act like?

Not zombies, but I do have an empire design of Necrophage lithoids. Basically, they're crystalline beings that emerge from within the living creatures they use as hosts in order to facilitate their growth.

They are phylacteries. Stone bodies made to carry inside the souls of lesser beings. The new converse get to sculpt their own bodies and on the ascension ceremony they ditch their old bodies behind bonding their soul to their new one :)

Perhaps to keep the bond they need to absorbe souls since the method they use if flawed. Which has lead to their civilization to develop on a megacorp in which souls are a commodity :)

I've heard that a lot; basically parasites like botflys that grow from crystals. But that's pretty evil, and I'm looking for a more 'spiritual' version of necrophages, since my megacorp is a church. Would you have any ideas for this?

Ooo! I really like this one. It's a shame that necrophages can't take the permanent employment civic; otherwise they could recycle the corpses.

It's like Build-a-Bear workshop, only it's a vessel for your eternal soul! Plus I could take the Scintillating Scales trait for the extra RP flavour. The idea of undead gemstone liches works great, since I was running Megachurch and Corporate Hedonism.

Oh, my crystaline lithoids are spiritual too, they are fanatic spiritualist authoritarians who ascribe a religious significance to the process of the "emergence".

It's still a bit evil, though.

Think of pops infested with the Protomolecule from the Expanse, or Tiberium from the Command and Conquer games.

You can also imagine Lithoids more broadly as being made of inorganic/silicon-based compounds, not necessarily just a solid slab of material.

Flash-fossil brains trapped in amber might be a kind of lithoid.

"Petrified wood" mechanisms might be a way to make plantoids into lithoids.

its a type or Rock-AIDS. Where its a disease that eventually turns you into a rock after a very painful series of symptoms that eventually lead to host's body being fully crystalized and turning to a new infection vector that keeps parts of the original host's intelligence to propagate itself.

I like the disease angle, although I wouldn't say it would be painful. Since I took the Hedonism civic, it would be more pleasurable than anything else. Maybe if I get the Zroni precursors I could make my megacorp a narcotics megacorp, and if you snort enough Zro you eventually get replaced from the inside out by crystals. Although that's more of a criminal syndicate thing than a megachurch one, and criminal syndicates suck right now.

Fun fact- the self-replicating non-living molecules that cause Mad Cow, prions, actually function by 'crystallising' brain tissue. Granted, such crystals are generally something you need an electron microscope for, but a lot of technobabble is based on extrapolating things like this. Why not have your Lithoids be living prions, forming a crystalline structure within the brains of their unfortunate hosts, eventually outgrowing them and assimilating external minerals into their superstructure?

If you've ever played Dragon Age: Inquisition, you can picture how the Red Templars are affected by the red lyrium they take. It grows and changes them from the inside, until they are just a vaguely humanoid monster made of red crystal. Whenever I think of lithoid necrophages, I think of one of the Red Templar battlecries: "I'll grow a crystal garden in your skull!"

Prions are still proteins though, with all the physical frailties that implies. With Lithoids, I imagine a lifeform with much more stable chemistry than life based on organic chemistry. That means they can survive in a much wider range of conditions and live a long time, but they're also pretty slow.
