What is the standard way you sort out your armies, for air units, infantry, sea and armour/tanks?

I usually play Britain:

Infantry Army: 2 INF, 2 MOT.
Armoured Army: 4 ARM.

Fleets vary, but I usually have 2 bombers and 2 FIG as escorts in air armies. :)

For effectivity you shouldn't create stacks out of both soft and hard targets ... also speed shouldn't vary that much ....

When I have the troops I organise my armies the following way:
Theatre (Europe, RUssia, Africa, etc.) (1x3 divs as Reserve)
- each with x Armygroups (1x3 divs as reserve)
--- each with 2-5 Armies (1 Field Marshal)
----- each with 4 Armycorps (1 FM (see above), 1 General, 2 LGs )
------- each with 2-3 divisions of the same type, i.e. inf, cav, mot (with the occasional brigade thrown in)

but I do mix several types of Arm and Mech, depending on their speed
Likewise as Germany I use stacks of three in my Navy an Airforce
Paras in groops of 1 or 2
Garrisons 1-2 inf (usually one AT-brigade) + 1-2 Militia

I'm against mixing slow (6 kph) and fast (10 and above) units as that prevents any kind of Blitzkrieg

several threads have discussed this already ... but I don't mind contributing to a new one
:)

Hmmm... was gonna, but now see that forum server is too busy to run a search.

Well, one thing I learned a long while back from reading another thread on this is that you should not only sort your stacks by hard/soft and by speed, as a couple of posters here pointed out. There is a third important criteria which is to sort by max org. If you have 6 inf with org 80 and 3 marines with org 120 and you stack them together, the marines are going to get those 6 inf divisions killed. The high org units will prevent the low org units from retreating soon enough to avoid being killed in place, if their orgs are that lopsided. The workaround is to keep a close eye on them so you can manually retreat in such a situation, but since is there is no real benefit from mixing them anyway.....why risk it?

My setup is expensive, but effective, for example for the invasion of Poland:

3 Groups of 3 Art Attach. Panzers, 3 Anti Attach. Mot., and 3 Eng Attach Mot.

1 Group of 6 Art Attach. Panzers, 3 Anti Attach. Mot., and 3 Eng Attach Mot.

Airforce:

5 groups of 4 interceptors,

3 groups of 9 dive bomber

For reserve (and holding Infantry) for Poland I have 10 Groups of 3 Regular Infantry

I know my setup is expensive, but it's effective, Poland can fall in 9 days :D
