So I started campaign as Bohemia with secret thoughts about possible WC if everything goes well. Became HRE emperor in 1468, inherited Burgundy in 1477, giving serious beating to France since 1522 every 10 years. In 1595 I finally unified HRE. Teutons, Poland and Hungary are my vassals, Denmark and Naples are begging to become vassals too. Unified HRE dominates not only Europe but any country in the world. Income 3x higher than nearest rival, manpower 4-5x higher, military tradition 90-100%. No one can oppose me. I finally reached the intended starting point of my WC that I was looking for. But, suddenly, I cannot continue playing, because why? No one can stand in my way anyway ...

How do you guys who achieved WC get and keep motivation to go on?

Don't unify the HRE, it makes the amount of micromanagement required in a very tedious task go up even higher.

I played my WC campaign for 2 months, that's how I eventually finished it. But I neither enacted HRE reforms nor inherited anything. Plain conquest and enforced unions, carefully forged. Getting lands as rich as the entire Netherlands that early in the game and *for free* might indeed make it look too easy and boring, dunno.

Take it as slowly as possible. The only time you should be at peace is when integrating vassals. You would be surprised how long it takes to protectorate every non western nation, also even a spain that has been beaten needs to be fully annexed, i revoked the privaleges in 1467 in my wc run and ive been at war for 300 years. Im at the tidy up stage now and its super boring. So many nations i need to protectorate and there is still a decent amount of muslim land i need to own outright. Plus i still need to annex OPM castile, 2PM aragon, 4pm denmark opm venice etc etc. need to cycle coalitions just to take more land at a fast enough rate. Plus africa westernised off me so im feeding africa to my vassal sus. This is all with the help of my hre vassal swarm.

My point here is there is a huge difference between becoming the most powerful independent nation and being the only independent nation

Honestly, I don't WC. I get bored way before that.

If you don't enjoy doing a WC, I'm not sure why you'd do it. :)

The idea bores me as well, so I just don't try for WC either. But from other remarks, it sounds like you WC like you eat a 60 ounce steak. One bite at a time until you finally get done. :)

For the challenge (can I do it?) and for achievement (badges are cool). Also don't forget bragging rights (dood, how c00l am I?) and "legitimacy" (I don't think any player who has achieved a WC can be considered below average - depending on the context of the WC, some are good or even awesome :) ).

Fun once or twice, especially after a new patch release changes the rules, strategies, and exploits.

But WC is exceedingly tedious. Really any game after you've become dominant gets pretty dull. Much more entertaining to start a new game in a more difficult position or with house rules that reflect reality a bit better (e.g., no allies, no HRE, nothing that smacks of cheese).

World Conquest is
a) Stupid as hell
b) Boring as hell

This is why I hope next expansion will introduce deeper peaceful mechanics, so a player will be able to be proud of small - but - ambitious cultural capital of the world, or whatever like that.

Did it for the achievement. I won't do it again.

Same. To me, the process just highlighted how bad the game was. There are plenty of other achievements I haven't gotten but every game mostly becomes the same.

CK2 is far more interesting because every succession has the potential to become a crises. Some you can manage well and get through fine but sometimes the wrong heir dies and suddenly your plans are all awry. Way more ups and downs. In EU4, the early game is interesting but after that it's just a linear path and the only question is whether your rate of expansion is sufficient for X goal or not.

I am actually interested in the thread much more than I have ever been into WC.

I do love to hear about other people doing the World Conquests but for me it is a much more enjoyable experience to play more shallow. Speed 3 is super fast playing for me. I play 100 years and I feel like I've done so much. But like achievements I am glad so many enjoy it.
